A year had passed since the fateful phone call that altered the course of so many lives.
Thompson Industries had undergone a radical cultural transformation. Far from destroying the company’s bottom line, Marcus's human-centric policies led to unprecedented employee loyalty, record-low turnover, and a surge in productivity that sent company profits soaring to an all-time high. Investors who had once criticized Marcus now hailed him as a visionary leader who proved that compassion and corporate success could coexist.
On a bright spring morning, Thompson Industries hosted its annual corporate gala in the grand ballroom of the headquarters. The event brought together executives, board members, and staff from every department, celebrating the company's record year.
Marcus stood at the podium on stage, looking out over the crowd of hundreds of smiling faces. Standing near the front table was Sarah, dressed in an elegant blue dress, sitting beside her healthy mother and her three radiant daughters.
"A year ago, I believed that success was measured by numbers on a balance sheet," Marcus announced into the microphone, his voice echoing clearly through the hall. "I thought that being at the top meant staying detached from the world below. But I was wrong."
He looked directly at Lily, who gave him a little wave from her seat.

The ballroom erupted into thunderous applause. Board members stood alongside janitorial staff, united in genuine celebration.
