Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

Before Damen could answer, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open once more.

This time, a dozen high-ranking federal investigators, accompanied by two armed U.S. Marshals and Elena Vasquez, marched into the room.

Elena walked with the absolute confidence of a three-billion-dollar fund manager who held the master key to New York’s financial infrastructure. She wore a tailored white pantsuit, carrying a thick leather briefcase embossed with the seal of Carter Meridian Capital.

The crowd parted frantically, whispering in sheer panic.

"Federal marshals?" Arthur Thorne sputtered, grabbing his lapels. "What is the meaning of this?!"

Elena stopped beside Evelyn, nodding respectfully to the triplets before turning her sharp eyes toward Damen.

"Good evening, Mr. Moretti," Elena announced clearly, her voice echoing through the ballroom’s sound system. "On behalf of Carter Meridian Capital and our majority stakeholders, I am serving formal notice of default, receivership, and asset seizure against Moretti Holdings."

Damen’s head snapped toward Elena. His jaw hardened. "What did you say?"

"You heard me," Elena replied smoothly, opening her briefcase and pulling out thick stacks of legal documents. "For the last four years, while your attention was focused on expanding your real estate and shipping monopolies, Carter Meridian quietly bought up eighty-two percent of your distressed corporate debt through third-party shell companies. Furthermore, our forensic audit uncovered undeniable proof that your cousin, Vincent Moretti, embezzled forty million dollars from your shipping terminals three years ago and framed Ms. Carter to cover his tracks."

Damen’s gaze shifted back to Evelyn, his eyes widening in stunned horror. "Vincent... framed you?"

"You didn't want to hear the truth back then, Damen," Evelyn said quietly, her voice cutting through the noise of the panic-stricken room. "You wanted a scapegoat. You wanted someone to blame for your vulnerabilities. So I took my three hundred dollars, I built an empire, and I waited for the exact right moment to buy your entire kingdom out from under you."

Julian Vance rushed forward, his face pale with terror. "Damen, you can't let them do this! If Moretti Holdings goes into receivership, every bank in Manhattan collapses!"

"Let them collapse," Damen said quietly.

His eyes never left Evelyn. All the power, all the millions, all the criminal syndicates and political influence he had accumulated over a lifetime suddenly meant nothing. He looked at the woman who had outsmarted him, outworked him, and outmaneuvered him on every single front.

"You own everything," Damen whispered, stepping closer to her. "You own the debt. You own the shipping lanes. You own my company."

"And I own my children," Evelyn added firmly.

May you like

"What do you want, Evelyn?" Damen asked, his voice cracking with a raw, desperate vulnerability that no one in the room had ever heard before. "Do you want my blood? Do you want me on my knees?"

"I want accountability, Damen," Evelyn said, her brown eyes flashing with absolute authority. "And I want you to prove to these three boys that their father is a man worthy of their respect, not just a tyrant who rules by fear."
