Chapter 6 - A Slice of Forever

One year later.

The summer sun beamed down on the sprawling back gardens of the Rinaldi estate in Greenwich.

The heavy iron security gates were wide open, welcoming dozens of cars driving up the long sycamore driveway. Children's laughter echoed across the manicured lawns, where bouncy castles, balloon stations, and long wooden banquet tables were set up beneath the shade of ancient trees.

There were no armed guards in dark suits patrolling the fences. There were no hidden cameras or atmosphere of cold paranoia.

The estate had finally become a home.

In the newly renovated, open-concept kitchen, nine-year-old Leo, Gabriel, and Mateo were clustered around the large marble island, wearing matching white chef hats.

Sitting on a high chair beside them was seven-year-old Rosie—Claire’s daughter—who had officially moved into the manor eight months ago, instantly becoming the cherished younger sister the triplets had always wanted.

"More sprinkles, Rosie!" Mateo laughed, passing her a bowl of rainbow sugar.

"No, blue sprinkles first!" Gabriel argued playfully.

"Hold on, executive chefs!" Claire’s voice called out as she walked into the kitchen, wearing a simple yellow sundress, her face glowing with happiness. "If you put that much sugar on the birthday cake, your father is going to hyperventilate."

"I heard that," a deep, warm voice spoke behind her.

Dante walked into the kitchen, wearing a casual linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He walked right up behind Claire, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her gently against his chest, and resting his chin on her shoulder.

He kissed her neck softly, making her giggle.

"Dad! Ewww!" Leo yelled, covering his eyes with his flour-dusted hands. "Not in front of the cake!"

"I can kiss my wife wherever I want, Leo," Dante grinned, sliding his hand down Claire’s arm, where a brilliant diamond wedding band glittered in the afternoon sunlight.

Six months ago, on a quiet evening in the renovated playroom—right in front of the wall where the boys had once drawn their dark city map—Dante had gotten down on one knee in front of Claire, surrounded by all four children, and asked her to make their family complete.

She hadn't hesitated for a single second.

"Everything ready for the big reveal?" Dante asked, looking at the massive, beautifully decorated four-tier chocolate cake sitting in the center of the counter.

"It's perfect," Claire smiled, looking up into Dante’s dark eyes—eyes that were no longer cold or hollow, but filled with deep, unwavering love.

Together, the family carried the cake out into the sunny garden, where dozens of friends, neighbors, and staff members—including Henry Brandt, who was smiling broadly—gathered around the banquet table.

The guests broke into a roaring chorus of "Happy Birthday" for the triplets.

When the song finished, Leo, Gabriel, and Mateo took a deep breath together and blew out all nine candles in one single blow.

The crowd cheered and clapped.

Leo cut the very first slice of cake, placed it carefully on a paper plate, and walked over to Claire.

He handed her the plate with a shy, proud smile.

"This is for you, Mom," Leo said softly.

Claire’s heart overflowed with pure, unadulterated joy. Tears of happiness welled up in her eyes as she took the plate and knelt down to give her son a tight, lingering hug.

"Thank you, my sweet boy," Claire whispered.

She looked up to see Dante watching her with a look of profound adoration, while Rosie and the other boys chased the puppy across the green grass.

Two years ago, she had been sitting in a cold Dunkin' with eleven dollars in her bank account, terrified of the future.

Now, standing in the warm sunlight surrounded by the people she loved most, she realized that true wealth wasn't measured in millions of dollars, stone mansions, or high-society titles.

True wealth was the courage to stand unbroken, the strength to fight for those who couldn't fight for themselves, and the sweet, beautiful blessing of a home built on love.
