Chapter 6 - A Life Built on Light

One Year Later...

The warm afternoon sun shone brightly over the lush green gardens of our seaside estate in Malibu.

The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming jasmine and the rhythmic sound of ocean waves crashing gently against the cliffs below. The patio was decorated with white flowers, silk ribbons, and colorful balloons for Sophia’s first birthday party.

Music played softly through the outdoor speakers as family and friends gathered around the lawn.

Uncle Arthur was near the grill, laughing loudly with several of his medical colleagues while holding a plate of appetizers. Richard Vance was sitting at a patio table, chatting casually with Marcus’s executive team.

I stood near the edge of the manicured lawn, wearing a simple white sundress that blew softly in the ocean breeze.

Sophia—now a gorgeous, chubby-cheeked one-year-old with Marcus’s striking grey eyes and my dark wavy hair—was sitting on a soft blanket in the grass, happily playing with a set of wooden building blocks.

"She’s almost ready to walk," a deep, familiar voice spoke behind me.

I turned to see Marcus walking toward us. He had discarded his corporate suits for a casual linen shirt and dark trousers, looking relaxed, happy, and remarkably handsome.

Marcus wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, pulling me flush against his chest, resting his chin in the crook of my neck as we both watched our daughter.

"She took two steps yesterday when you were in your study," I teased softly, turning my head to kiss his jaw. "I tried to film it, but she fell over onto her plush teddy bear."

Marcus laughed—a genuine, warm sound that filled my heart with endless joy. "Then I'll just have to make sure I don't miss the next ones."

He turned me around in his arms, looking down at me with an intensity of love that still took my breath away after all this time.

"Are you happy, Khloe?" Marcus asked gently, running his thumb over my cheek.

I looked at him—at the man who had stood by me when the whole world doubted us, who had torn down an entire empire to protect me, and who loved me with every fiber of his soul.

"I am happier than I ever thought possible," I whispered, resting my hands on his chest. "We survived the storm, Marcus."

"We didn't just survive it," Marcus corrected softly, leaning down to press his lips against mine in a deep, tender kiss. "We built something unbreakable."

"Mama! Dada!" a tiny voice babbled from the blanket.

We broke apart, both of us looking down.

Sophia had pushed herself up onto her tiny feet. She wobbled slightly, her little hands reaching out toward us, taking one... two... three shaky steps across the green grass before tumbling safely into Marcus’s open arms.

Marcus scooped our daughter up into the air, spinning her around as Sophia burst into ringing, musical laughter that echoed across the sunlit estate.

I stepped beside them, wrapping my arms around my husband and daughter as the warm golden light of the setting sun bathed us in its glow.

The cruelty, the jealousy, and the dark shadows of the past were completely gone, replaced forever by a love that no lie could ever touch, and no storm could ever destroy.
