Chapter 1: The Arrival of the Titan

The silence in the NICU was suffocating, broken only by the rhythmic, fragile beep... beep... beep... of Liam and Chloe’s heart monitors.
Dominic’s face underwent a terrifying transformation. The smug, patrician smile he had worn like armor for the last three years evaporated, replaced by a sickly, pale hue. He gripped the folder of signed divorce papers so tightly the cardboard creaked.
"Your... your grandfather?" Dominic stammered, his voice dropping an octave, losing its confident edge. "Audrey, what kind of sick game is this? Your grandfather was a retired public school teacher from Ohio. You told me he lived on a modest pension!"
Natalie tightened her grip on Dominic’s arm, her designer heels clicking nervously against the sterile linoleum. "Dominic, babe, she’s bluffing. Look at her. She’s trapped in a hospital chair, leaking tears, trying to scare us. Saint Aurelia is a world-renowned private medical institution. A school teacher doesn't just call the owner."
Audrey didn't answer. She didn't have to. She merely leaned back against her pillow, her gaze locked onto the ivory cashmere coat resting on Natalie’s shoulders. The initials L.V.M. & C.E.M.—Liam Vincent Vance and Chloe Elizabeth Vance—were hidden just beneath Natalie's cheap, stolen pride.
Less than four minutes later, the heavy double doors of the NICU didn't just open; they were practically thrown back on their hinges.
The shift in the room's atmospheric pressure was instantaneous. Head Nurse Evelyn, who had been standing by the door with her jaw clenched in outrage, immediately stepped aside, bowing her head in profound respect.
In walked Arthur Vance.
At seventy-eight years old, the patriarch of the Vance Medical Empire still carried himself with the terrifying aura of a man who commanded billions with a single stroke of a pen. He was flanked by Chief of Surgery Dr. Aris, the hospital’s Chief Legal Officer Marcus Stone, and four towering, black-suited security details from the Vance Global security division.
Arthur didn't look at Dominic. He didn't look at Natalie. His piercing gray eyes went straight to Audrey, softening instantly as he rushed to her side, completely ignoring the sterile boundaries usually enforced in the wing.
"Audrey, my sweet girl," Arthur whispered, his voice thick with a mixture of profound grief and raging fury. He took her cold hand, looking at the bruised IV marks. "What has happened to you? Why didn't you call the private line when the labor started?"
"Dominic took my personal phone, Grandfather," Audrey said, her voice remarkably steady, though a single tear slipped down her cheek. "He told me the battery was dead. He kept me isolated for forty-eight hours while I was unconscious from the emergency C-section. I only got my backup phone out of my duffel bag ten minutes ago."
Arthur’s head snapped toward Dominic. The look in the old man's eyes could have frozen water in mid-air.
Dominic’s breath hitched. He knew Arthur Vance. Every single person in the medical supply industry knew Arthur Vance. The Vance Group controlled 45% of the medical distribution channels in North America. Dominic’s entire startup business, Apex Medical Labs, relied entirely on a sub-contracting license granted by... a subsidiary of Vance Global.
"Mr... Mr. Vance," Dominic choked out, his knees visibly trembling. "There's been a massive misunderstanding. A terrible mistake. Audrey... Audrey never told me. I thought—"
"You thought she was a nameless, penniless orphan you could discard like trash after bleeding her small trust fund dry," Arthur said, his voice dangerously quiet, vibrating with a lethal stillness. "You thought you could walk into my hospital, use my equipment to save your children, and then strip my granddaughter of her dignity while she is too weak to stand."
"No! No, sir!" Natalie chimed in, her voice shrill, panic finally breaking through her calculated exterior. "We didn't know! And besides, Audrey signed the papers! It’s legal! We have a signed contract. The assets are Dominic's!"
Marcus Stone, the billionaire's chief attorney, stepped forward, adjusting his glasses. "A contract signed under severe medical duress, by a patient heavily medicated on post-surgical narcotics, without legal representation present, is not worth the paper it is printed on, young lady. In fact, it is a textbook exhibit for a criminal coercion lawsuit."
Arthur turned to the security team. "Remove them from my sight. They are contaminating the air my great-grandchildren are breathing."
"Wait!" Audrey called out.
The room froze. Dominic looked at her with sudden, desperate hope, thinking her old, submissive nature was kicking in. "Audrey, please... remember our love. Remember what we built."
Audrey pointed a trembling but resolute finger at Natalie. "Take off the coat."
Natalie gasped, clutching the ivory cashmere tighter. "It's freezing outside! Dominic gave this to me!"
"It belongs to my children," Audrey said, her voice dropping to a freezing whisper. "Take it off, or I will have security cut it off you."
One of the massive security guards stepped forward. Terrified, Natalie frantically unbuttoned the coat, throwing it onto the floor in a heap of wrinkled desperation. She stood there in a tight, garish dress, shivering under the harsh hospital lights.

"Get them out," Arthur commanded.
The security team didn't gently escort them. They grabbed Dominic and Natalie by their upper arms, dragging them backward out of the NICU. Dominic screamed out for mercy, his polished shoes scraping loudly against the floor, his eyes wild with the sudden realization that he hadn't just ruined his marriage—he had just signed his own financial death warrant.
