Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Romano Empire

At 8:30 AM the following morning, the sun rose bright and sharp over the frozen waters of Boston Harbor.

Four black SUVs pulled up to the main administration building of Romano Enterprises at Pier 4.

Alessandro Moretti stepped out of the lead vehicle, wearing a tailored charcoal coat, flanked by Arthur Vance, Federal Prosecutor Sarah Jenkins, and six armed Federal Marshals carrying a master seizure warrant.

Inside the executive boardroom, Vittorio Romano sat behind his desk, his arm bandaged, his face pale and contorted with desperate fury as his corporate attorneys huddled around him.

The heavy double doors burst open!

Alessandro walked inside, his cane clicking rhythmically against the hardwood floor.

"Alessandro!" Vittorio shouted, standing up, his voice cracking with rage. "You think you can come into my headquarters with federal officers?! I have political protection in this city!"

"Not anymore, Vittorio," Federal Prosecutor Sarah Jenkins announced, stepping forward to drop three thick leather dossiers onto the conference table. "Five hours ago, your lieutenant, Marco, signed a full confession detailing twenty years of extortion, human trafficking, and the premeditated murder of crane operator Thomas Rossi in 2024."

Vittorio’s face drained of every bit of color. He looked at his attorneys, but they all slowly stepped back from the table, raising their hands in silent surrender.

"Furthermore," Arthur Vance added, pulling out a legal transfer document, "under the Federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, all assets of Romano Enterprises—including Pier 4, the dry docks, and your shipping fleet—have been seized by the state and transferred into a court-monitored liquidation trust managed by Moretti Logistics."

Vittorio collapsed into his leather chair, clutching his chest, staring at Alessandro as if looking at a ghost.

"You... you destroyed me," Vittorio whispered, his voice trembling. "For a housekeeper? For a dead crane operator's brat?!"

Alessandro walked up to the edge of the desk. He reached into his coat pocket, pulled out the worn, wooden star bracelet that Emma had given him, and set it down softly on top of the court seizure order.

"You thought this child was my weakness, Vittorio," Alessandro said, leaning over the desk, his eyes locked onto the fallen crime boss with unyielding authority. "You were wrong. She didn't make me weak. She gave me a reason to fight. Take him away."

The Federal Marshals stepped forward, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around Vittorio Romano’s wrists, dragging him out of his mahogany office as news cameras flashed through the glass windows outside.
