Chapter 10 - THE ROSE AND THE DRAGON

Eighteen months later.
The Mediterranean sun sparkled over the azure waters of the Amalfi Coast, casting golden light across the cliffside terrace of a private villa surrounded by blooming white roses.
Laughter and soft Italian music filled the warm summer air.
In the center of the terrace, three-year-old Leo was running through the grass, wearing a tiny linen suit, chasing a golden retriever puppy, his joyful squeals echoing down the cliffs.
I stood by the stone balustrade, wearing a breathtaking ivory lace wedding dress that trailed softly along the terra-cotta tiles. My hair was styled in soft, cascading waves, pinned with fresh white orchids.
On my finger sat a magnificent, vintage diamond ring. On my neck hung the silver rose-and-thorn pendant that had once belonged to my mother.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind. Matteo pulled me gently against his chest, his breath warm against my neck as he kissed the curve of my shoulder.
He wore a tailored black tuxedo, looking impeccably handsome, his dark eyes filled with a peace I had never seen during our first turbulent months together. The dragon tattoo on his hand rested gently over mine against the stone railing.
"What are you thinking about, Mrs. D’Angelo?" Matteo asked softly into my ear.
"I was thinking about Ristorante Bellagio," I smiled, turning around in his arms to look up into his striking face. "About a terrifying man with a dragon on his hand who walked in with a baby who wouldn't let go of my apron."
Matteo chuckled—a deep, rich sound that filled my heart with warmth.
"That baby had better instincts than the entire D’Angelo intelligence network," Matteo admitted, reaching up to gently trace the dimple on my cheek with his thumb. "He knew his mother wasn't the woman who gave birth to him. He knew his mother was the woman who was going to save our family."
"We saved each other, Matteo," I whispered, reaching up to wrap my arms around his neck.
The past eighteen months had been a journey of complete transformation. The Moretti cartel had been entirely dismantled by federal authorities following the evidence Clara had left behind. Clara herself was currently serving a thirty-year sentence in a federal prison, completely cut off from the world.
Matteo had stepped down from active street operations, converting the D’Angelo empire into a legitimate international shipping and real estate conglomerate. The dragons on his skin were no longer a symbol of terror, but a mark of absolute protection for those he loved.
"Mommy! Daddy! Look!" Leo came running across the terrace, holding up a bright red rose he had plucked from the garden.
Matteo dropped down to one knee, scooping our son into his arms effortlessly, tossing him into the air until Leo giggled wildly.
"Did you pick that for your mother, little prince?" Matteo asked, setting him down gently.
"For Mommy!" Leo cheered, handing me the rose with a proud, adorable smile.

I knelt down beside them, kissing Leo's cheek, then leaning up to press my lips against Matteo’s in a long, sweet, passionate kiss that carried all the promises of our future.
Hand in hand, surrounded by the blooming roses, the sparkling sea, and the unconditional love of our family, we looked out over the horizon—a future built not on shadows or ghosts, but on the enduring strength of a love that had defied every storm.
