Chapter 5 - Healing the Scars

Away from the chaotic spotlight of the media and the courts, peace finally returned to the Reed Estate.
The sun was setting over the ocean view outside the master bedroom. Sarah stood on the balcony, watching the waves crash gently against the cliffs below. The trauma of the past two years—the grief, the loneliness, the public humiliation at the restaurant—was finally beginning to fade like a bad dream.
Warm arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Alexander pulled her close, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked gently.
"I'm thinking about how fast everything changed," Sarah replied, leaning her head back against his chest, feeling the steady, reassuring beat of his heart. "A month ago, I thought I was completely alone in the world. I thought the man I loved was dead, and the people I trusted were my friends."
"You were never alone, Sarah," Alexander murmured, kissing her temple. "Even when I didn't remember my own name on that island, I remembered a face. I remembered a feeling. Every night I looked at the ocean, I knew I had to get back to someone. That someone was you."
Sarah turned around in his arms, looking up into his dark, expressive eyes.
"When Mark told me to know my place..." Sarah said softly, "for a second, I believed him. I thought I was weak."
"Mark Thompson was a coward who tried to diminish your light because he couldn't handle your strength," Alexander said fiercely, his thumb gently stroking her cheek. "You managed this company’s charitable foundation alone. You stood tall even when they tried to strip away your dignity. You are the strongest person I know."
Sarah smiled, a genuine, radiant smile that Alexander hadn't seen in two years.
"We built something incredible together, Alexander," she said. "Now that the ghosts are gone, what do we do next?"

Alexander picked her up effortlessly in his arms, making her laugh—a sweet, light sound that filled the grand house with warmth once again.
"Next," Alexander declared, carrying her toward the grand bed covered in white silk sheets, "we rebuild our life. Without secrets. Without enemies. Just you and me."
