Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Battle

The grand conference hall on the 80th floor of Reed Enterprises was packed with board members, high-profile investors, and financial reporters. At the head of the long mahogany table sat Julian Reed, dressed in a sharp three-piece suit, flashing a triumphant smile for the press.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian spoke into the microphone, his voice smooth and confident. "It is a tragic reality, but following the unfortunate legal troubles involving my former associate, Mr. Mark Thompson, and the ongoing mental instability of my dear sister-in-law, Sarah Reed... we must secure the future of this company."
Murmurs of agreement echoed through the room.
"Sarah has proven incapable of managing the legacy left behind by my late brother, Alexander," Julian continued, holding up a stack of legal papers. "Therefore, under Clause 9 of the corporate charter, I move to permanently strip her of her trustee status and consolidate all founder shares under my leadership."
"I second the motion!" shouted one of Julian’s bought-off board members.
"All those in favor—" Julian began, raising his hand.
BANG!
The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open so violently that they slammed against the marble walls.
The room went dead silent.
Sarah walked in first. She wore a stunning emerald-green silk suit, her hair styled in elegant waves, her head held high with absolute authority. There was no trace of the broken woman from the night before.
Behind her walked Alexander Reed.
Gasps filled the auditorium. Two board members stood up so fast their chairs flipped over backward. Reporters scrambled to turn on their cameras, the flashbulbs erupting into a blinding storm of white light.
"Alexander?!" Julian gasped, his face turning as white as paper. His hand froze in mid-air. "No... no, you're dead! You died in the ocean!"
"I apologize for disappointing you, Julian," Alexander said, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the massive room. "Surviving a plane crash is difficult. Surviving a brother’s betrayal is even harder. But here I am."
"Security!" Julian shrieked into the microphone, losing all composure. "Security, escort these intruders out! This man is an imposter! A fraud!"
The security guards moved forward, but Alexander’s personal security detail—a squad of armed elite bodyguards—stepped in, instantly neutralizing Julian’s team and pushing them against the walls.
Sarah stepped up to the main podium, sliding Julian’s microphones toward herself.
"Good morning, members of the board," Sarah said calmly, looking down at the shocked crowd. "As the rightful owner of fifty-one percent of Reed Enterprises, I am canceling this emergency vote."
"You don't have the power!" Julian spat, sweat pouring down his forehead. "Mark signed over your proxy!"
"Mark Thompson is currently sitting in a federal holding cell charged with grand larceny, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit murder," Sarah announced coldly, pulling a tablet from her briefcase and connecting it to the boardroom’s massive projector screens.
The screens lit up, displaying bank records, wire transfers, and encrypted text messages between Julian, Mark, and an international mercenary group.
"These are the financial logs showing Julian transferring three million dollars to an offshore account forty-eight hours before Alexander’s plane crashed," Sarah explained as the room gasped in collective horror. "And these are the audio files recovered from Mark’s phone last night, detailing how Julian planned to frame me for corporate embezzlement once the takeover was complete."
Julian stumbled backward, knocking over his glass of water. "It's a lie! It's all fabricated!"
Alexander walked up to Julian, stepping close enough to look down into his panicked eyes.
"The FBI is standing in the lobby, Julian," Alexander said in a dark, quiet whisper that only Julian could hear. "You tried to take my life. You tried to ruin my wife. Now, you will spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security cell thinking about where you went wrong."
Federal agents burst into the boardroom, flashing their badges. Within moments, Julian was handcuffed and led away in front of every major news outlet in the country.
The board members immediately stood up, clapping frantically, trying to distance themselves from Julian and win back the favor of the true king and queen of Reed Enterprises.
Alexander turned to Sarah. In front of the entire world, he knelt down on one knee, took her hand, and kissed the back of it.

"You handled that brilliantly, my love," Alexander said softy.
"I had a good teacher," Sarah smiled, tears of relief finally flowing down her cheeks. "Now let's finish this."
