Chapter 4 - The Legal Siege

Three weeks passed.
The scandal involving the Rossi family had taken over global news cycles. What started as a socialite’s jealous attack in a hospital suite had blown open a massive web of corruption, illegal offshore accounts, and corporate blackmail run by Victor Rossi for over a decade.
Inside the VIP wing of Vance Memorial, Khloe sat up in bed, surrounded by soft pillows. Her color had returned, her skin glowing with health, though she remained under constant medical supervision.
Marcus sat on the edge of the bed, working on his laptop while gently stroking her feet.
The door opened, and Attorney Arthur Vance—a legendary defense attorney and Khloe's eldest uncle—walked in, carrying a thick leather briefcase.
"Good morning, Khloe," Arthur smiled warmly, placing a bouquet of fresh yellow roses on her bedside table. "How is my favorite niece doing today?"
"Bored, Uncle Arthur," Khloe laughed gently. "Marcus won't even let me reach for the TV remote."
"That's because your blood pressure needs to remain perfect," Marcus said, not looking up from his screen, though a small smile touched his lips.
Arthur pulled a chair over and sat down. "Well, I bring news from the courthouse. The Rossi legal team tried to file for bail for Isabella for the third time this morning."
Khloe’s expression sobered. "And?"
"Denied," Arthur said with absolute satisfaction. "Judge Vance set her status as a high-risk flight danger. She is currently sitting in a maximum-security women's facility, wearing an orange jumpsuit and waiting for her trial date."
"What about Victor?" Marcus asked, finally looking up.
"Victor Rossi filed for personal bankruptcy yesterday," Arthur revealed. "Every asset he owned has been liquidated to pay off the bank loans Marcus acquired. He’s living in a rented apartment on the outskirts of the city, abandoned by all his former political friends."
Khloe looked down at her lap, her hands resting over her belly. "I almost feel sorry for them."
Marcus closed his laptop and took Khloe's hand. "Don't, Khloe. If the situation were reversed—if you were the one on the floor—Isabella wouldn't have spared a second of sympathy for you or our child. They built their entire lives by crushing people beneath them. They simply picked the wrong person to crush this time."
Arthur nodded in agreement. "She's right, Khloe. The evidence against Isabella is overwhelming. The jury selection begins next week. We are pushing for the maximum sentence—twenty years without parole."
Suddenly, Khloe gasped, her eyes widening as she grabbed Marcus’s hand tight.
Marcus panicked instantly, standing up. "Khloe! What is it?! Are you in pain?!"
Khloe took a deep breath, then a soft, beautiful smile broke across her face. She took Marcus's hand and pressed it firmly against the left side of her belly.
A small, distinct bump pushed back against his palm.
"She kicked," Khloe whispered, her eyes shining with tears of joy. "She's kicking, Marcus."

Marcus froze. He felt the strong, energetic flutter of his unborn daughter pushing against his hand—a clear, undeniable sign of life and strength.
The billionaire CEO, who had dismantled an empire without shedding a tear, bowed his head against his wife’s stomach and let out a quiet, emotional breath of pure relief.
