Chapter 1 - The Mask Falls

The silence in the VIP hospital suite was so thick it felt suffocation-level heavy.
Marcus Thorne stood motionless in the doorway, his tall frame blocking the entrance, his dark eyes fixed on his wife curled on the floor. For a fraction of a second, his mind refused to process the scene. He had known Isabella Rossi was ambitious—he had tolerated her presence at corporate dinners because her father was a key shareholder in Thorne Global Enterprises. But this was beyond corporate politics.
"Marcus!" Isabella cried out, taking a delicate, staggering step toward him. Her hands trembled violently as she clutched her red silk gown. "Thank God you're here! She... she lost her mind! I came up to offer her some water after the gala, and she accused me of trying to seduce you! She threw the champagne flute at me and tried to push me!"
Tears streamed down Isabella's cheeks, perfectly highlighting her innocence. "Look at the mess she made! I had to defend myself, Marcus! I was so scared!"
Behind Marcus, Elaine Parker, the event coordinator, gasped and pulled out her phone. "Mr. Thorne, should I call security? Mrs. Thorne looks... she looks out of control—"
"Shut up," Marcus said.
His voice wasn't loud. It wasn't angry. It was a flat, icy whisper that instantly cut off Elaine's breath.
Marcus didn't even look at Isabella. He stepped over the shattered crystal, dropped to his knees beside Khloe, and wrapped his arms around her trembling body.
"Khloe," Marcus breathed, his hand hovering over her abdomen, afraid that touching her might cause more pain. "Khloe, look at me."
Khloe was pale as marble. Small, panicked gasps escaped her lips as she kept both arms locked tightly over her seven-month baby bump. "Marcus... the baby... she kicked me... Marcus, please... the baby isn't moving..."
A violent shudder went through Marcus’s broad shoulders. The mask of the composure he maintained as a billionaire CEO cracked completely, revealing an abyss of pure, murderous rage.
Before he could speak, the heavy suite doors banged open again.
A tall man in a dark navy surgeon's coat walked in, flanked by four armed hospital security officers and two trauma nurses pushing an emergency gurney. It was Dr. Jonathan Vance—the Chief of Surgery at Vance Memorial Hospital, and Khloe's maternal uncle.
Jonathan didn't ask questions. One glance at his niece on the floor, surrounded by shattered glass and blood-red wine stains, told him everything.
"Get her onto the gurney! Trauma Bay 1, prepare an emergency fetal ultrasound NOW!" Jonathan shouted at the nurses, his voice echoing through the corridor.
As the nurses gently lifted Khloe, Isabella stepped forward, trying to maintain her victim narrative. "Dr. Vance, you need to understand, your niece attacked me first! She's mentally unstable—"
SLAP!
The sound echoed off the high ceilings like a gunshot.
Isabella was knocked sideways, stumbling against the marble table. Her hand flew to her burning cheek, her eyes wide with shock.
Jonathan stood inches from her, his hand slowly lowering. "You have three seconds to get out of my sight before I have my security team throw you off the rooftop landing."
"How dare you touch me!" Isabella shrieked, looking at Marcus for support. "Marcus! Did you see what he just did?! He assaulted me!"
Marcus stood up slowly. He adjusted his cuffs, his face devoid of any human emotion. He looked down at Isabella as if she were a insect under a microscope.
"Elaine," Marcus said smoothly to the event coordinator.
"Y-yes, Mr. Thorne?" Elaine squeaked, shaking.
"Call our head of security. Lock down every exit of this hospital. Nobody leaves this building. Especially Miss Rossi." Marcus stepped closer to Isabella, his shadow completely engulfing her. "And retrieve the hard drives from the security room on this floor. I want the raw, unedited footage from the hallway and the suite camera."
Isabella's blood turned to ice. "Suite... camera?"
Jonathan let out a harsh, cold laugh. "This is a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite designed for high-profile political figures and foreign diplomats, Isabella. Every inch of this room—except the bathroom—is monitored by four infrared 4K cameras with 24-hour cloud backup."

The color completely drained from Isabella's face. The tears vanished from her eyes, replaced by a sudden, sickening realization.
Her flawless act, her rehearsed story, her entire strategy... was already recorded.
