Chapter 3 - The Price of Arrogance

Down in the hospital's private executive lounge, Victor Rossi paced back and forth across the plush carpet.

Victor was a powerful man in the city's political elite—a silver-haired billionaire who was used to buying his way out of every scandal. Standing beside him was Isabella, who had recovered her composure and was sipping a glass of water, holding an ice pack to her cheek.

"Dad, I'm telling you, Marcus won't actually do anything," Isabella said, her voice dripping with artificial confidence. "He's just angry because his wife made a scene. Once he realizes how much money his company stands to lose if you pull out of the European deal, he’ll drop this whole thing."

Victor scoffed, straightening his silk tie. "Of course he will. Khloe is a nobody—a former schoolteacher with no family backing except a hospital surgeon. Marcus married her for PR. He won't sacrifice a ten-billion-dollar energy merger over a stupid fight between two women."

The lounge doors clicked open.

Marcus Thorne walked in alone. He was still wearing his tuxedo, though his tie was loosened. Behind him, two guards closed the doors and stood in front of them, locking the room from the inside.

"Marcus," Victor spoke up, putting on his best warm, corporate smile as he held out his hand. "Thank goodness. Look, let's settle this like reasonable men. Isabella told me about the little misunderstanding upstairs. Young women get emotional, especially when pregnancy hormones are involved. I'm willing to overlook your surgeon friend laying a hand on my daughter if we just put this behind us."

Marcus didn't take Victor's hand. He walked over to the bar, poured himself a glass of whiskey, and took a small sip.

"Misunderstanding, Victor?" Marcus asked, his tone remarkably conversational.

"Exactly," Victor nodded smoothly. "We have the signature meeting for the European pipeline project tomorrow morning. Let's focus on the big picture."

Marcus pulled a sleek silver remote from his pocket and pressed a button. The giant television screen on the wall lit up.

The high-definition video of Isabella brutally kicking Khloe began to play on a loop. The audio was crystal clear—capturing Isabella’s vicious words: "Smile for the cameras. Give him an heir. Then quietly fade away."

Victor’s smile froze. He looked at the screen, then turned to his daughter, his eyes widening in horror. "Isabella... what is that?"

"Dad... it's... it's edited! It's a deepfake!" Isabella panicked, dropping her ice pack. "Marcus, you can't prove that's me!"

"The district attorney’s office already has the original file, Isabella," Marcus said softly. "The warrant for your arrest for attempted murder, aggravated assault on a pregnant woman, and destruction of evidence has already been signed by Judge Vance—Jonathan's cousin."

Victor's face flushed deep red. "Marcus! Are you insane?! If you file those charges, I will pull out of the pipeline deal! I will ruin Thorne Global's stock price tomorrow morning!"

Marcus took another slow sip of his whiskey. "Check your phone, Victor."

At that exact moment, Victor’s phone began to chime furiously. Then his lawyer's phone rang. Then the news alert on the TV screen flashed bright red.

BREAKING NEWS: THORNE GLOBAL TERMINATES ALL CONTRACTS WITH ROSSI ENTERPRISES FOLLOWING ALLEGATIONS OF CORPORATE ESPIONAGE AND ATTEMPTED MURDER.

ROSSI ENTERPRISES SHARES CRASH 60% IN PRE-MARKET TRADING.

FED INVESTIGATORS SEIZE ROSSI ASSETS IN SWITZERLAND.

Victor stumbled backward, knocking over a leather chair. "What... what did you do?!"

"I didn't just end our partnership, Victor," Marcus said, stepping closer to the broken billionaire. "I bought your debt from Deutsche Bank twenty minutes ago. I now own eighty percent of your corporate headquarters, your family estate in Tuscany, and the private jet you flew in on tonight."

Victor fell to his knees, clutching his chest. "Marcus... please... we've known each other for fifteen years!"

"And for fifteen years, you let your daughter believe she could touch what belongs to me without paying the price," Marcus whispered coldly.

The double doors clicked open, and four state troopers walked in, holding silver handcuffs.

"Isabella Rossi," the lead trooper announced. "You are under arrest."

Isabella shrieked, kicking and fighting as the troopers grabbed her arms. "Dad! DO SOMETHING! DAD!"

Victor could only watch in silence, completely ruined, as his daughter was dragged out in handcuffs in front of dozens of hospital staff and waiting news reporters.
