Chapter 9 - THE CONFRONTATION

Alessandro didn't look angry. He looked completely, terrifyingly unimpressed.

He wore his signature charcoal suit, holding a leather briefcase. He walked slowly into the foyer, handing his coat to Marco without breaking eye contact with Julian and his lawyer.

Julian visibly swallowed, stepping back an inch as Alessandro’s overwhelming aura filled the room.

"Five million dollars," Alessandro said smoothly, his deep voice echoing in the quiet foyer. "That is a very specific figure, Mr. Vance."

Julian tried to puff out his chest, attempting to appear brave in front of his attorney. "I have rights, Duca! That’s my daughter in your apartment! You can't intimidate me!"

Alessandro walked over to his grand mahogany desk, set his briefcase down, and opened it. He pulled out a slender manila file and tossed it onto the glass coffee table in front of Julian.

"Open it," Alessandro commanded quietly.

Julian frowned, looking at his lawyer before cautiously opening the file. As he flipped through the pages, his face transformed from greedy confidence to utter, absolute terror.

"What... what is this?" Julian stammered, his hands shaking so violently the papers rattled.

"That is a complete audit of your financial records over the past three years, Mr. Vance," Alessandro explained casually, pouring himself a cup of espresso from the silver carafe. "It details your illegal offshore gambling debts, your tax evasion charges in Jersey, and the two corporate embezzlement schemes you ran at your previous firm."

Alessandro took a slow sip of his espresso, his dark eyes fixing onto Julian with deadly precision.

"If I make one phone call to the District Attorney’s office," Alessandro continued softly, "you will be arrested before you reach the street lobby. You will spend the next fifteen years in a federal penitentiary."

Julian’s attorney immediately closed his briefcase, backing away from Julian. "I... I was not informed of these legal complications. I am withdrawing as counsel immediately."

"Wait! You can't leave me!" Julian yelled as his attorney bolted toward the elevator, frantically tapping the call button.

Alessandro stepped closer to Julian, towering over the shaking man.

"You left Elena when she had nothing," Alessandro said, his voice dropping into a dark, terrifying whisper. "You let her starve. You let her hide in my laundry room because she had nowhere else to turn. You are not a father, Vance. You are a parasite."

Alessandro reached into his jacket, pulled out a document, and slapped it against Julian’s chest.

"That is a full, irrevocable relinquishment of parental rights," Alessandro said. "Sign it now. Or I hand your financial file to the FBI."

Julian didn't hesitate. He scrambled to grab a pen from his pocket, pressing the paper against the wall, signing his name with erratic, frantic strokes. He threw the pen onto the floor and practically begged, "Can I go now? Please... just let me leave!"

"Marco," Alessandro said coldly. "Escort Mr. Vance to the street. If he ever steps foot on 5th Avenue again... ensure he disappears."

"With pleasure, Boss," Marco grinned, grabbing Julian by his collar and shoving him into the elevator.

The doors slid shut, leaving the penthouse silent once more.

I stood there, my breath hitching in my chest, staring at Alessandro as he picked up the signed surrender of parental rights from the floor. He walked over to me, holding out the document.

"It is over, Elena," Alessandro said gently. "He can never touch your life again."

I looked at the document, then up into his dark, beautiful eyes. I threw my arms around his neck, burying my face in his shoulder, sobbing tears of pure, overwhelming gratitude.

Alessandro wrapped his strong arms around me, holding me tight against his chest, kissing the top of my head softly.

"You are safe now, my love," he whispered into my hair. "Both of you."
