Chapter 4 - The Predator’s Last Gambit
Eric did not go quietly. He was not a man of introspection; he was a man of ego. When he realized that Maya was truly gone—that she wasn't coming back to pay the electric bill or lie to the neighbors—his panic turned into a cold, calculated campaign of harassment.
He showed up at Maya’s office, hoping to corner her in the parking garage. He tried to contact her work friends, feeding them lies about her "mental breakdown." He even tried to manipulate her parents, calling them at three in the morning, sobbing about how he "couldn't live without her."
Maya, however, was ahead of him. She had already changed her locks, upgraded her security, and instructed her HR department to treat Eric as a hostile security threat.
"He’s desperate, Maya," Sarah warned during their weekly meeting. "Desperation is when they make mistakes. Be careful."
Maya felt the chill of that warning. She started taking a different route home. She installed an alarm system in her new, temporary apartment. She began documenting every single attempt at contact, building a mountain of evidence that would eventually lead to a permanent restraining order and, potentially, criminal charges for stalking.

But Eric’s most devastating blow wasn't physical; it was a desperate attempt to ruin her reputation. He leaked edited, out-of-context clips of their arguments to social media, trying to make it look like Maya was the aggressor.
The internet, however, had seen this play before. When Maya released the full, unedited audio of the night he had shoved her—the night the bowl broke—the tide turned permanently. The public didn't just support her; they rallied. A crowdfunding campaign started by her colleagues grew, helping her cover the mounting legal fees and giving her the resources to fight a long battle.
