Chapter 5 - The Reckoning

Two weeks after the dramatic events at the mansion, the dust had begun to settle across Mexico City, but the consequences of the truth were absolute.

In a high-security holding facility downtown, Doña Teresa Villaseñor sat across a metal table from Diego. She looked defeated, her designer clothes replaced by a gray detention jumpsuit, her hair unstyled for the first time in her life.

"Diego," Teresa said, her voice raspy and desperate. "You can't leave me in here. I am your mother! Everything I did... I did it to protect the Villaseñor legacy!"

"No, Mother," Diego said, sitting across from her with a cold, distant gaze. "You didn't do it for the legacy. You did it for control. You ruined Marisol’s life four years ago, you made my daughter live as an invisible child in my own house, and you tried to bribe a judge to destroy a innocent family."

"I was trying to keep our bloodline pure!" Teresa argued, her hands shaking in her laps. "A maid’s daughter—"

"Valentina is my daughter," Diego interrupted sharply, his voice cutting through her excuses like a blade. "And Marisol is the woman I love. My lawyers have finalized the legal proceedings. The Villaseñor Trust has been completely restructured. You have been removed as a beneficiary from all corporate holdings and family foundations."

Teresa gasped, clutching her chest. "You're cutting me off?!"

"I am providing you with a modest monthly allowance in a private residence outside the city once your trial concludes," Diego stated coldly. "On one condition: you will never step foot in Mexico City again, and you will never come within a mile of my daughter or Marisol. If you break that condition, the legal team will push for the maximum fifteen-year prison sentence."

He stood up, buttoning his jacket, refusing to offer her another word.

"Diego! Wait!" Teresa cried out as the guard opened the door. "Diego! I am your mother!"

Diego walked out into the bright sunlight, leaving the dark hallway of the detention center behind him.

Meanwhile, Paulina Robles was facing her own reckoning.

Following the public exposure of the bribery plot and her family's involvement in the tabloid slander campaign, the Robles Construction Group collapsed on the stock market. Major investors pulled their funding, and Paulina found herself ostracized by the very high-society circles she had once ruled.

She attempted to flee to Miami, but federal investigators seized her passport pending an investigation into her family's corporate tax fraud and money laundering schemes.

On a warm afternoon later that week, Diego stood in the grand auditorium of the Civil Registry of Mexico City.

Standing beside him was Marisol, wearing a breathtaking cream silk dress that highlighted her natural, soft beauty. Valentina stood between them, wearing a matching white lace dress, holding both of their hands.

A judge stood behind the mahogany desk, holding the finalized legal documents.

"In accordance with the laws of the United States of Mexico," the judge declared with a warm smile, "the legal birth certificate of Valentina Villaseñor has been officially recorded, establishing Diego Villaseñor as her biological father with full legal rights and responsibilities."

Diego signed the document with a flourish, then turned to Marisol, taking her hands in his.

"Four years ago, I lost you because I was too blind to see the traps around us," Diego said, his eyes shining with deep emotion. "I spent four years living in a cold house. Today, you and Valentina gave me a home."

Marisol smiled through her tears, resting her cheek against his chest. "We never stopped loving you, Diego. Not for a single day."
