Chapter 7 - The Sterling Sunrise

Three months later.

The grand ballroom of the Sterling Estate had been completely rebuilt. The high ceiling was now supported by beautiful, reinforced oak beams, and in place of the heavy crystal chandelier, a magnificent skylight had been installed, letting the warm, golden light of the afternoon sun flood the entire room.

The space was filled with the sound of laughter, soft classical music, and the gentle clinking of champagne glasses.

Emily stood near the center of the room, dressed in a beautiful floral dress. The shallow scratch on her forearm had faded into a thin, barely visible silver line—a tiny reminder of a nightmare that was permanently over. In her arms, she held a beautiful, three-month-old baby boy with dark hair and bright hazel eyes.

Julian stood beside her, his arm wrapped tightly around her waist, his eyes fixed on his son with a pride that filled his entire being. He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss against Emily’s forehead.

"He looks exactly like you when he smiles," Julian murmured softly.

"Let’s hope he gets your head for business," Emily laughed gently, rocking the baby as he cooed into her shoulder.

Thomas Mercer had been sentenced the previous week to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, his financial assets seized and redistributed to rectify the historic fraud he had committed. Victoria, cleared of all criminal charges after cooperating fully with the investigation, had chosen to retire quietly to Europe, having signed a permanent non-interference treaty with Julian’s estate.

At the edge of the ballroom, near the grand entrance, Lena stood dressed in a sharp, tailored black suit, her eyes scanning the room with her usual vigilant focus. But for the first time in months, the tension had completely left her shoulders.

Emily walked over to her, carrying the baby, and stopped beside her childhood friend.

"You know, the security perimeter is perfectly clear, Lena," Emily teased softly. "You’re allowed to put down the tablet and hold your godson."

A rare, beautiful smile broke across Lena’s face. She carefully tucked her security device into her jacket pocket and reached out, taking the small baby boy into her arms with an incredible, unexpected tenderness. The baby immediately gripped her finger with his tiny hand, his bright eyes looking up at her without a single trace of fear.

"What did you decide to name him?" Lena asked quietly, her voice softening.

Julian joined them, resting his hand on Lena’s shoulder, looking at the true protector of his family. "His name is Leo. It means lion. We wanted him to remember that he was saved by the fiercest heart in Boston."

Lena looked from the baby to the beautiful, sunlit room, realizing that out of the shattered crystal and dangerous shadows of the past, they had built a fortress that nothing could ever break down again.
