Chapter 5 - The Mastermind Cornered

The conference room erupted into absolute chaos. Uncles and aunts stood up, shouting in horror. Madeline’s lawyers immediately packed their briefcases, stepping away from her as if she were covered in plague.
"This is absurd! You have no proof!" Madeline shrieked, her regal facade completely shattering. She looked like a wild, trapped animal. "You're trying to frame me! Security! Get them out of my house!"
"It's not your house anymore, Mother," Brandon said coldly. He stood up, towering over her. "And the security waiting outside isn't yours either."
The heavy oak doors of the conference room opened. Two detectives from the Nashville Police Department walked in, followed by a forensic medical examiner.
"Madeline," the lead detective said, drawing his handcuffs. "You are under arrest for the attempted murder of Luke, the tampering of consumer products, and we are officially reopening the homicide investigation into the death of Charles based on the newly uncovered forensic evidence and the confession of Dr. Aris, who was detained this morning."
"No! You can't do this to me! I am a pillar of this community!" Madeline screamed as the detectives grabbed her arms. She struggled, her expensive gold earrings shaking, her sophisticated hair falling into a messy tangle over her face.
As they dragged her past the long table, she looked at the relatives she had ruled over with fear for decades. Not a single person looked her in the eye. They all turned their backs on her.
She turned her venomous gaze to me. "You ruined everything! You and that pathetic little boy! I should have gotten rid of you both years ago!"
May you like
"You didn't ruin us, Madeline," I said, holding Brandon's hand tightly. "Your own greed did. Goodbye."
With her arrest, the dark cloud that had hovered over our family for generations finally dissolved. But the road to healing for our little boy was just beginning.
