Chapter 5 - The Showdown at Pier 14

The storm raged violently over the Narragansett Bay as Daniel’s black SUV slammed through the chain-link gates of Pier 14—a abandoned Whitlock shipping warehouse.

Daniel climbed out of the car, his eyes burning with a demonic, unrestrained fury. He didn't wear a coat; the freezing rain soaked his shirt, but he didn't feel it. Behind him, dozens of heavily armed men—those still loyal to him—spread out into the shadows.

He kicked open the rusty side door of the warehouse. Inside, the air was thick with the smell of rust and stagnant seawater.

In the center of the vast space, tied to a wooden chair under a single flickering lightbulb, was Hannah. Her head hung low, but she was conscious, her breath ragged. Standing behind her, holding a suppressed pistol to her temple, was Victor Ross.

Thomas and Claire Whitlock stood nearby, flanked by four armed mercenaries.

"Step back, Daniel!" Victor shouted, his voice echoing in the cavernous warehouse. "One step closer, and I put a bullet through her head. Your empire belongs to us now. Sign the transfer papers on the table, or she dies."

Daniel didn't stop walking. He kept a steady, predatory pace, his eyes locked onto Victor.

"You think you’re the first person to try to betray me, Victor?" Daniel said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "I knew you were skimming from the harbor accounts six months ago. I let you keep doing it because you were leading me straight to the Whitlocks."

Thomas Whitlock laughed, though it sounded forced. "You’re bluffing, Carver. You have nothing."

"Am I?" Daniel raised his left hand, holding a small digital recorder. "I have your cousin’s full confession. I found him in Boston three days ago. He gave me everything—the offshore routing numbers, the forged loan documents used to blackmail Hannah, and the exact coordinates of where you buried her brother, Caleb Monroe."

Hannah’s head snapped up, her eyes wide with shock and grief. "Caleb..."

"He’s alive, Hannah," Daniel said, his eyes softening for a fraction of a second as he looked at her. "I found him in a private medical facility in Vermont where the Whitlocks were keeping him drugged so he couldn't talk. He’s safe. He’s with the federal marshals right now."

Claire gasped, turning to her father. "Father, he’s lying! He can't know!"

"It’s over, Thomas," Daniel said, stopping ten feet away. "The FBI raided your main office twenty minutes ago. Your assets are frozen. Your legacy is gone."

Panic erupted. Realizing he had lost everything, Victor tightened his grip on the gun, his finger trembling on the trigger. "If I go down, she goes down with me!"

BANG.

A single gunshot echoed through the warehouse, but it didn't come from Victor.

From the upper catwalk, Martin Hale stood with a sniper rifle. The bullet struck Victor’s shoulder, sending him crashing to the floor, his gun skittering away into the dark water below the floorboards.

Before the mercenaries could react, Daniel’s men rushed the floor, disarming them within seconds. Daniel moved like lightning, tackling Thomas Whitlock to the ground and delivering a devastating punch that knocked the older man unconscious.

Claire screamed, collapsing to her knees as handcuffs were slapped onto her wrists by incoming federal agents who had been tailing Daniel’s convoy.

Daniel ignored the chaos. He rushed to Hannah, pulling out a pocketknife to slice through the ropes binding her wrists.

"Hannah, look at me. Are you okay?"

May you like

Hannah didn't answer. She gripped his shirt with terrifying strength, her face contorting in pure agony. A dark stain was spreading across the fabric of her skirt.

"Daniel..." she gasped, her body violently trembling. "The baby... it’s time."
