Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Coup

The fallout from the courtroom debacle spread through the upper echelons of the Vance Group like wildfire. While the video wasn't public yet, rumors of the protection order and the perjury charges had reached the institutional investors. The company's stock dipped three percent in forty-eight hours—a clear sign that the market sensed instability at the top.

Julian capitalized on the momentum. He called an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors at the Vance Group headquarters, a towering glass skyscraper in the heart of the city’s financial district.

Eleanor sat at the far end of the long mahogany boardroom table. Because of the restraining order, her legal team had negotiated a specific exemption allowing her to attend essential corporate meetings via a live, encrypted video feed, projected onto a massive screen. Her face on the screen looked haggard, despite her heavy makeup.

"This meeting has been called to discuss a vote of no confidence regarding the chairperson of the board, Eleanor Vance," Julian announced, standing at the head of the table.

"This is an absolute farce!" Eleanor’s voice boomed from the speakers, echoing through the boardroom. "Julian, you are utilizing a private, minor family dispute to launch a hostile takeover of the company your father built! Members of the board, I have steered this company’s philanthropic success for two decades. My son is compromised by personal biases."

Julian didn't argue. He simply looked at his chief operating officer, who nodded and activated the room’s presentation screen. Instead of corporate metrics, the nursery security footage played once more. The hardened business executives around the table gasped, several turning away from the brutal image of the family matriarch dragging a screaming woman by her hair.

"This footage is currently being reviewed by the District Attorney," Julian said calmly, his voice projecting total authority. "An indictment for felony assault and perjury is imminent. If Eleanor Vance remains associated with this corporation when the public indictment occurs, the brand damage will be catastrophic. Institutional investors will dump our stock, our luxury retail partnerships will dissolve overnight, and the net loss to this company will be in the hundreds of millions."

He looked around the room, meeting the eyes of every board member. "As CEO, my fiduciary and utilitarian duty is to protect the value of this company and the livelihoods of our ten thousand employees. We must vote to strip her of her chairperson title and suspend her voting rights indefinitely under the corporate morality clause."

"Julian, you wouldn't dare!" Eleanor screamed through the monitor, her elegant facade completely disintegrating. "I am your mother! Everything you have belongs to me!"

"Call the vote," Julian said coldly.

One by one, the board members raised their hands. Even Eleanor’s oldest allies, looking at the undeniable proof of her liability and the impending financial ruin she represented, slowly raised their hands against her. The vote was unanimous.

Eleanor’s video feed was abruptly cut off by the system administrator, leaving the screen blank. She was officially powerless within her own empire. Julian sat down, his heart pounding. He had successfully protected the company and removed her primary weapon, but he knew that a woman who had lost everything had nothing left to lose.
