Chapter 5 - The War for Tomorrow

The peace of that emotional reunion was short-lived.
At three o'clock in the morning, while Emily and Noah were fast asleep in the east wing suite, Anthony sat in his dimly lit study on the ground floor.
Frankie stood across from the heavy oak desk, his expression grim as he laid a satellite map of Rhode Island across the table.
"Dominic Moretti is mobilizing his crew, Boss," Frankie reported in a low voice. "Marco went straight back to Providence. They know you brought Emily and the kid here. Moretti thinks you're vulnerable because you're distracted."
"Dominic is a fool if he thinks bringing a fight to my doorstep makes me vulnerable," Anthony said coldly, staring at the map. "He thinks he can use my family to force me out of the port terminals."
"He's assembled twenty men," Frankie warned. "They're planning to launch a hit on our shipping warehouse in South Boston at dawn. They want to draw your security detail away from the compound so they can strike here."
Anthony stood up slowly, buttoning his vest. His gray eyes were filled with a dark, lethal clarity.
"They think I'm going to play defense," Anthony said quietly. "They think I'm going to hide behind these stone walls and wait for them to make a move."
"What's the play, Boss?"
"We don't wait for dawn," Anthony ordered, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "Call the captains. I want fifty men assembled in South Boston within thirty minutes. We are going to wipe out the Moretti syndicate tonight. Every warehouse, every illegal front, every piece of property they hold in this state. By the time the sun comes up, there won't be a Moretti family left in New England."
"Understood, Boss," Frankie nodded, turning to carry out the command.
"Frankie," Anthony stopped him.
"Yeah, Boss?"
"Ensure ten of our best men stay here to guard Emily and Noah. If anything happens to me... you make sure they get out of the country safely. Give them the accounts in Switzerland."
Frankie looked at his long-time friend with deep respect. "Nothing's going to happen to you, Anthony. You have something to come home to now."
Before heading out into the cold night, Anthony walked quietly up the grand staircase to the east wing. He pushed open the heavy oak door of the master suite.
The fireplace cast a soft, warm glow across the room. Emily was curled up under a plush blanket on the large bed, while Noah slept peacefully beside her, clutching the small wrapped gift Anthony had given him earlier.
Anthony stepped soundlessly to the side of the bed. He knelt down, gently smoothing back a strand of hair from Emily's forehead.
Her eyes fluttered open. She looked at him in the dim firelight, seeing the tactical vest beneath his dark coat.
"You're leaving," she whispered, her voice filled with fear.
"I have to finish this, Emily," Anthony said softly. "The Moretti family won't stop until they're eliminated. I made a promise to you seven years ago that I would give you a safe world. I failed back then. I am not failing tonight."
Emily sat up slowly, reaching out to grasp his hand. Her fingers intertwined with his—the same touch they had shared years ago when they were young and full of hope.
"Come back to us, Anthony," Emily whispered, her voice trembling with raw emotion. "Noah just found his father. Don't take him away again."

Anthony leaned in, pressing a soft, lingering kiss onto her forehead, then kissed his sleeping son's cheek.
"I'll come back," Anthony promised. "I swear it."
