Chapter 2 - The Digital Execution

As the reality of the twins settled in, the hospital room became a pressure cooker. Mark tried to regain control, puffing out his chest as he stepped toward the doctor. "Hand them over. I am their father. I am the executor of my wife’s estate."
Dr. Jonathan didn't flinch. He produced a tablet from a hidden wall compartment. "Rebecca knew, Mark. She knew everything. The vitamins you insisted she take were analyzed by three different private labs. The toxicology reports are already in the hands of the District Attorney."
Mark’s composure finally fractured. "That’s a lie! You’re just a doctor, you don't have the authority to—"

"I have the authority of the Moore Trust," a new voice entered the room. It was Rebecca’s private attorney, Mr. Sterling, who had been waiting in the observation lounge. He stepped in, his suit sharp and his eyes dangerous. "And the trust has just been triggered by the birth of these children. You are not the guardian, Mark. You are a person of interest in a felony investigation."
The trio realized then that they weren't in a hospital room; they were in a cage. As the heavy double doors opened, it wasn't the head nurse who entered, but three detectives. They didn't come for the babies. They came for the father.
