Chapter 1 - The Anatomy of a Trap

The sterile white light of the delivery room felt like an interrogation lamp. Rebecca Moore, her skin pale as parchment, clung to the edges of the gurney as if trying to hold her soul within her body. The nurses were frantic, but their movements were rhythmic, a dance of practiced efficiency.
In the corner, the "grieving" trio—Mark, Agnes, and Claire—watched with calculated expressions. Mark’s eyes weren't filled with tears; they were scanning the room, looking for the exact moment the monitor would flatline so he could claim his prize. He had been planning this moment since the day he married into the Moore fortune.
When the heart rate monitor shrieked its final, relentless tone, a perverse sense of relief washed over him. It’s done, he thought. The heiress is dead, the debt is settled, and the empire is mine.
Dr. Jonathan, a man who had known Rebecca’s father for decades, stood over her body. His hands didn't shake. He reached down, checked for a pulse, and then stood up, his face an unreadable mask.
"Time of death," he began, pausing to look directly at Mark, "is irrelevant... because the procedure isn't over."
Mark frowned. "What are you talking about?"
May you like
"It’s twins," the doctor said, his voice cold as a winter grave.
The atmosphere in the room shattered. Agnes stumbled, her hand dropping from her crucifix. Claire’s face, usually so composed, crumbled into a mask of pure terror. They weren't just losing an heiress; they were gaining two heirs—two lives that were legally prioritized above all else. They had spent months trying to orchestrate a "natural" end for Rebecca, never realizing that she had been documenting every drop of poison, every altered meal, and every whispered threat.
