Chapter 5 - The Emergency Room

The high-velocity stress of the gala, combined with the emotional trauma of the past week, finally took its physical toll. Just three hours after Victoria’s arrest, while sitting in the safety of their private suite, Emily felt a sudden, sharp pain tear through her lower abdomen.
She gasped, her champagne glass slipping from her hand, shattering against the hardwood floor as a warm rush of fluid soaked through her royal blue dress.
"Julian..." Emily whispered, her face instantly turning pale as she gripped his arm. "The baby... it's too early. It's only thirty-four weeks."
Julian’s military training instantly kicked in. He didn't panic. He scooped Emily into his arms, shouting for Marcus and his security team to clear the private elevator. Within nine minutes, the luxury SUV was tearing through the empty city streets, heading toward the specialized neonatal wing of the Swedish Medical Center under a full police escort arranged by Detective Vance.
The delivery room was a blur of bright white lights, the rhythmic, urgent beeping of fetal heart monitors, and the rapid movements of the city's top obstetricians.
Emily lay in the automated delivery bed, sweat soaking her dark hair, her knuckles white as she gripped Julian’s hand with all the strength she had left. The pain was blinding, a fierce, rolling tide that threatened to pull her under, but every time she looked up, she saw Julian’s steady, unyielding grey eyes locking onto hers.
"You're okay, Emily," Julian whispered fiercely, pressing his forehead against hers, his tears mixing with the sweat on her cheek. "You caught yourself on the stairs, and you're going to catch us now. You are the strongest woman on this earth. Bring our son home."
"The baby's heart rate is dropping! We need to perform an emergency vacuum extraction right now!" the chief medical officer shouted, the nurses moving in with specialized surgical instruments.
Emily let out a final, primal scream of pure, protective maternal fury, channeling every ounce of the terror she had felt on that staircase landing into one final, monumental push.
A sudden, sharp silence fell over the room.
Then came the sound.
It wasn't a scream or a crash. It was a loud, vibrant, and incredibly angry cry—the sound of a healthy, beautiful newborn baby boy filling his lungs with air for the very first time.

The chief nurse immediately wrapped the baby in a soft cotton blanket and laid him directly onto Emily’s bare chest. He was small, his skin a healthy pink, his tiny hands instinctively reaching out until his little fingers brushed against the gold wedding band on Emily’s hand.
Emily closed her eyes, a deep, overwhelming wave of pure, unadulterated happiness washing over her soul. She cried softly, her hand cradling the tiny life she had fought so fiercely to protect. They had survived the stairs, they had survived the poison of the family empire, and they had won.
