Chapter 5 - The Gift of Life

Two weeks later.

The quiet, private island owned by Lucas was a paradise of white sand and whispering palm trees. The air was warm, carrying the scent of salt and tropical flowers. In the center of the island sat a modern glass villa, completely secluded from the chaos of the outside world.

Ava sat on a plush lounge chair on the deck, watching the sunset dip below the ocean horizon. Her hand was fully healed, leaving only a tiny, faint silver line near her knuckle—a scar that no longer carried any pain.

Lucas walked out of the villa, holding a warm cup of herbal tea. He sat beside her, wrapping a soft cashmere blanket around her shoulders before pulling her gently against his chest.

"You’re thinking too much," he whispered, kissing her temple.

"I’m just thinking about how much everything changed in one month," Ava smiled, resting her head on his shoulder. "A month ago, I was terrified I wouldn't be able to protect our child. Today... I feel like the luckiest woman alive."

"You protected him by being brave, Ava," Lucas said softly, his hand resting over her large, round belly. Suddenly, he paused. He felt a distinct, strong kick beneath his palm.

Ava gasped softly, a beautiful laugh escaping her lips. "I think he hears his father."

Before Lucas could respond, a sudden, sharp tightening crossed Ava's face. She gripped Lucas’s arm, her breath catching. "Lucas... I think... I think it’s time."

Lucas’s protective instincts immediately kicked into high gear. Within three minutes, the private medical team stationed on the island was in the villa’s specialized delivery suite. Lucas never left her side, holding her hand through every wave of pain, whispering words of love and encouragement into her ear.

"You are the strongest woman I know, Ava," he murmured, wiping the sweat from her forehead as the room filled with the tense energy of new life arriving. "Just a little more, my love."

With one final, breathless push, a loud, healthy cry echoed through the room, shattering the quiet night.

The doctor smiled, lifting a beautiful, perfect baby boy. "Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling. He is absolutely perfect."

When the nurses placed the bundle onto Ava’s chest, she burst into tears of pure, overwhelming joy. Lucas leaned down, his own eyes misty, wrapping his arms around both his wife and his son. The dark shadows of cruelty, envy, and greed were entirely gone, replaced by the brightest dawn they had ever seen.
