Chapter 6 - A Sterling Legacy

Six months later.
The grand lobby of The Grand Sovereign Hotel was once again filled with the hum of high-society chatter, the soft tinkling of crystal glasses, and the fragrant scent of thousands of white orchids. But today, the lobby wasn't host to a bitter confrontation. Today, it was the venue for the event of the century.
The wedding of Arthur Sterling and Elena Reyes.
Outside, hundreds of journalists and photographers crowded behind red velvet ropes, their camera flashes creating a continuous lightning storm against the evening sky. Headlines across the country had been raving for weeks about the "Cinderella of the Sterling Empire"—the hospital worker turned hotel maid who had exposed a multi-million-dollar corporate conspiracy and captured the heart of the city's most eligible billionaire.
Inside the private dressing room, Elena stood before a floor-to-ceiling mirror.
She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of delicate French lace, embroidered with thousands of tiny seed pearls that caught the light with every breath she took. A long silk veil flowed behind her, pinned to her hair with an antique diamond tiara—a Sterling family heirloom presented to her that morning by Doña Victoria herself.
A soft knock sounded at the door, and Leo stepped inside, looking dashing in a fitted tuxedo. He no longer needed crutches; months of top-tier physical therapy funded by the Sterling medical trust had completely healed his legs.
"You look... incredible, El," Leo said, his voice thick with emotion as he held out his arm to her. "I still can't believe this is real."
"It's real, Leo," Elena said softly, turning to give him a brilliant smile. "We're safe now. Both of us."
"Ready to become a Sterling?"
"More than ready."
The double doors of the ballroom swung open, revealing a breathtaking transformation. The space had been converted into a winter garden of white roses and shimmering chandeliers. Walking down the aisle, Elena focused on only one thing: the man standing at the alter.
Arthur stood waiting for her, looking impossibly handsome in a classic black tuxedo. As he watched her walk toward him, the stern, impenetrable billionaire melted away, leaving behind a man filled with profound, overwhelming devotion.
Beside him sat Doña Victoria in the front row, glowing with pride, her hands resting peacefully in her lap.
When Leo placed Elena's hand in Arthur's, Arthur wrapped his fingers tightly around hers, bending down to whisper in her ear: "You took your time."
"I wanted to make sure you didn't run away," Elena whispered back, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Never," Arthur promised, his voice thick with emotion. "Not in this lifetime."
The ceremony was swift, beautiful, and deeply moving. When the officiant finally declared, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," Arthur didn't hesitate. He pulled Elena into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sent the entire ballroom into a thunderous ovation.
Late that night, as the grand reception wound down, Arthur led Elena away from the crowds, up to the private top-floor balcony overlooking the illuminated city skyline. The cool night breeze rustled the silk of her dress as she leaned back against his chest, his arms wrapped securely around her waist.
"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Sterling?" Arthur murmured into her hair, pressing a gentle kiss against her temple.
Elena looked down at the glittering lights of the city below, remembering the nights she had spent walking those same streets in the rain, exhausted, terrified of the future, wondering how she would afford her next meal.
"I'm thinking about that day in the lobby," Elena admitted softly, turning in his arms to loop her hands around his neck. "What if I hadn't stepped in? What if I had been too afraid of losing my job to grab Julianne's wrist?"
Arthur looked down at her, his dark gray eyes filled with an intense, unwavering warmth.
"You were never just a maid, Elena," Arthur said, his hand coming up to gently cup her face. "You were the light this house had been waiting for. You saved my mother, you saved my family, and you saved me from becoming a man who only cared about power."
He bent his head, his lips touching hers in a soft, lingering kiss under the starry sky.

"The entire world thought you were just a girl in a faded uniform," Arthur whispered against her lips. "But you were always the queen."
Elena smiled, burying her face in the warmth of his chest as the city lights twinkled beneath them—a testament to a love that had defied status, conquered betrayal, and built a legacy that would last forever.
