Part 8: The Promise We Kept
Every year on the anniversary of the day our lives changed forever, our family visited a quiet lake outside the city.
We didn't go there to remember fear.
We went there to celebrate survival.
We packed sandwiches, played games, laughed until sunset, and each wrote a note about something we were grateful for before folding it into a small paper boat and letting it drift across the water.
Lily always wrote about hope.
Tommy always wrote about family.
Sarah wrote about second chances.
And I always wrote the same sentence.
May you like
"I promise to always listen, always believe, and always protect."
It was a promise I intended to keep for the rest of my life.
