Chapter 4 - The Day of Reckoning

The high-definition camera on my laptop blinked to life, connecting me directly to the boardroom on the 42nd floor of a Manhattan skyscraper.
On the massive screen before me, I could see them all. Bradley sat at the center of the mahogany table, looking polished but noticeably frayed around the edges. Dark circles under his eyes were poorly concealed by makeup. To his right sat his mother, Eleanor, looking like a queen defending her crumbling castle. Next to her was Brittany, smirking arrogantly. And sitting proudly beside Bradley, wearing a tight-fitting white designer dress that emphasized her barely-there baby bump, was Tiffany.
"Sarah," Bradley snapped the moment the connection stabilized. "Cut the crap. Where are my kids? You have twenty-four hours to get them on a flight back to New York, or I will have the FBI involved."
"Good afternoon, Bradley. Eleanor. Tiffany," I said calmly, my voice projecting clearly through their boardroom speakers.
"We are not here for pleasantries, Sarah," Eleanor interrupted, her voice dripping with disdain. "You have embarrassed this family enough with your leaked gossip. Name your price to disappear. We know you took the passports to extort a higher settlement because you know Bradley is moving on to a better life."
"I haven't leaked anything, Eleanor," I said smoothly. "The financial records spoke for themselves. But since you mentioned settlements, let’s look at the actual math."
I pressed a key on my laptop, sharing my screen with the boardroom. A spreadsheet materialized on their end.
"What is this?" Bradley’s lawyer frowned, leaning forward.
"These are the forensic audit results of Bennett Holdings from the last three years," I explained. "While Bradley was telling me that the market was down and that we needed to cut back on the children's expenses, he was routing money through a shell company called 'Aura Dawn LLC.' Bradley, do you want to tell your mother who the sole shareholder of Aura Dawn LLC is?"
Bradley’s face drained of color. He shot a frantic look at Tiffany, then at his lawyer. "This is proprietary corporate information! Turn this off!"
"It’s actually marital fraud," I countered. "The sole shareholder is Tiffany Vance. Bradley used over four million dollars of marital assets to purchase a penthouse in Miami, a luxury yacht, and a three-carat pink diamond ring—all while we were legally married. Under New York law, that money must be returned to the marital estate immediately. Which means, Eleanor, your son is currently millions of dollars in debt to me and his children."
"You lying bitch!" Tiffany yelled, standing up. "Bradley loves me! That money was a gift for our future!"
"Sit down, Tiffany!" Eleanor ordered, her voice shaking. She glared at the screen. "Sarah, even if this is true, it’s a civil matter. We will fight you in court for years. We have the resources. You don't. And once my grandchild is born, Bradley's focus will be on his true heirs."
"Ah, yes. The grandchild," I said softly. I took a deep breath. This was the moment. "The fresh start. The Bennett legacy."
I opened the final PDF on my desktop.
"Bradley, do you remember Dr. Lawrence at the New York Fertility Center? February 14th, 2021?"
Bradley froze. His eyes went entirely vacant. He looked like a man watching a tidal wave approach with nowhere to run. "Sarah... don't. Stop."
"What is she talking about, Bradley?" Brittany asked, looking confused.
"Five years ago, after Madison was born, Bradley underwent a successful, permanent vasectomy," I announced clearly. The document appeared on their screen, complete with medical licenses, signatures, and lab results confirming a zero-sperm count. "He never reversed it. I have the medical records right here, verified by the clinic."
The silence in the boardroom was deafening. It was a suffocating, heavy silence that felt like the air before a lightning strike.
Eleanor slowly turned her head to look at Tiffany. Tiffany’s face had gone completely pale, her mouth slightly open, her hand dropping away from her stomach.
"Bradley?" Eleanor whispered, her voice cracking. "Bradley, tell me this is a lie."
Bradley couldn't speak. He stared at Tiffany, his chest heaving. "Tiffany... whose baby is it?"
"Bradley, honey, no! She's lying, she forged it!" Tiffany screamed, her voice cracking with panic. "It’s a miracle! You know we tried so hard!"
"You cheating whore!" Brittany shrieked, jumping out of her chair.

The boardroom erupted into absolute chaos. Tiffany began crying hysterically, Bradley slammed his fists onto the table, shouting profanities, and Eleanor looked as though she was about to faint.
I watched the screen for a moment longer. Then, with a calm, steady hand, I clicked the red button and ended the call.
