Chapter 3 - The Confrontation at the Mansion

The pieces of the horrific puzzle were finally falling into place. Laura and Brian hadn't just abandoned Mrs. Helen; they had actively thrown her into that pit, expecting the freezing rain and hypothermia to do the dirty work for them. They could claim she wandered off due to old age, collect the millions, and live happily ever after.

"Where are they now?" Daniel asked, his eyes burning with a vengeful fire.

"They're staying at a luxury estate in the gated community outside Lexington," Sarah said, showing him an address on her phone. "They bought it with the cash advance the development company gave them. Daniel, you can't just go there. They have connections with the local police chief. That’s why I told you to get her out of the clinic. The chief is in on it."

"I don't care about the chief," Daniel snarled. "I'm going to look my sister in the eye."

Leaving Sarah at a safe location, Daniel drove straight to the Lexington mansion. The rain had slowed to a miserable drizzle by the time he arrived. He bypassed the security gate by driving his truck straight through the wooden barrier, the loud crash echoing through the wealthy neighborhood.

He stormed up to the front door of the massive, modern house and kicked it open.

Inside, the house was beautifully decorated. Music was playing softly. Brian was sitting on a leather sofa, a glass of expensive whiskey in his hand, while Laura was looking at a catalog for luxury yachts.

When they saw Daniel standing in the doorway, drenched in mud, blood, and rain, Laura dropped her glass. It shattered on the marble floor.

"Daniel!" Laura shrieked, backing away. "How... how did you get in here?"

"You left Mom in a ditch," Daniel said, his voice eerily calm as he walked into the room, leaving muddy footprints. "You threw her in a pit like a piece of trash so you could buy this house? So Brian could drive a red truck?"

Brian stood up, trying to look tough, puffing out his chest. "Listen here, little brother. You don't know what you're talking about. The old lady signed the papers legally. She’s old, she’s losing her mind. Whatever happened to her out there, it was an accident. She must have wandered off."

"She didn't wander off, Brian," Daniel said, stepping closer. "She told me what you did. She said you dragged her out of the car."

Laura’s face turned completely white. She looked at Brian, her voice cracking. "You said she was already unconscious! You said she wouldn't remember!"

"Shut up, Laura!" Brian yelled, panic finally breaking through his arrogant facade. He reached into his waistband and pulled out a handgun, pointing it directly at Daniel's chest. "You should have stayed in Detroit, Daniel. Now, you’re going to join your mother."
