Chapter 9 - The Final Showdown at the Harbor

The ballroom of the Grand Plaza Hotel was filled with elite high-society guests, flashing camera lights, and waiters carrying champagne trays. At the main podium, Julian’s lead attorney, a smug man named Arthur Pendelton, addressed the board of directors.

"Due to the tragic and prolonged incapacity of Mrs. Preston Sherrill Salim," Pendelton announced smoothly, "we request an immediate transfer of executive authority to the Sherrill Family Trust managed by—"

The heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom swung open.

A sudden hush fell over the three hundred guests in attendance. Cameras stopped flashing. Whispers rippled through the crowd like wildfire.

Walking down the center aisle, arm in arm with Officer Adrian Salim in a crisp formal tuxedo, was Preston Sherrill. She walked with grace, her head held high, looking every bit the powerful executive she was. Behind them walked Prosecutor Sarah Lin and a squad of federal marshals.

"I believe my 'incapacity' has been greatly exaggerated, Mr. Pendelton," Preston’s voice echoed clearly through the microphone system.

Pendelton’s face drained of all color. His hands began to shake as he fumbled with his tablet, frantically attempting to send an encrypted signal to his offshore contacts to execute the account transfer—exactly as Preston had predicted.

"Got him," Prosecutor Lin whispered, checking her secure monitor. "The cyber team just traced the IP address. It’s linking directly to an offshore account registered under Julian Sherrill’s personal alias. That's the smoking gun."

Federal marshals immediately moved in, surrounding Pendelton and his legal team, placing them under arrest for fraud, conspiracy, and attempted murder.

As the crowd erupted into shocked applause and news cameras swarmed the scene, Preston took the microphone at the podium.

"For weeks, people tried to silence me, to bury the truth six feet under," Preston said, her voice steady and powerful. "But love, family, and justice are forces that cannot be buried. Sherrill Industries will no longer hide behind corrupt shadows. We are starting anew tonight."

She looked out into the crowd where Payson stood beside Marcus, clapping proudly with a beaming smile on his face.

The truth was finally out. The empire of corruption had completely collapsed.
