CHAPTER 1: The Wrath of a Father

CHAPTER 1: The Wrath of a Father

The sound of the billionaire’s knees hitting the hard marble floor sent a physical shockwave through the entire boutique.

Alexander Thorne, the ruthless tech mogul who controlled half of the city's skyline, didn't care that his custom $10,000 navy suit was brushing against the dirt. He didn't care about the high-profile investors waiting for him at the hotel down the street. All he saw, and all that mattered, was his four-year-old daughter, Chloe, trembling on the floor.

"Chloe! Oh God, Chloe," Alexander breathed, his voice cracking with an agonizing mixture of terror and relief. He pulled her tiny, shaking body into his chest, burying his face in her soft curls. "I’ve got you, sweetheart. Papa’s here. You’re safe."

"Papa! A mean lady... she yelled at me," Chloe sobbed into his shoulder, her tiny fingers clutching the collar of his suit jacket.

A heavy, suffocating silence descended upon the luxury store. The cold-hearted manager, Beatrice Vance, felt the air leave her lungs. Her expensive makeup seemed to crack as the blood completely drained from her face. She recognized Alexander Thorne instantly—not just from the Forbes covers, but because his conglomerate owned the entire luxury shopping district, including the very boutique she managed.

"M-Mr. Thorne," Beatrice stuttered, her voice suddenly high and reedy. She stepped forward, trying to smooth down her tailored skirt, her hands shaking uncontrollably. "We... we had no idea she was your daughter! The child came in alone, crying, and she was making the high-end clients uncomfortable. I was simply protecting the store's brand—"

"Protecting the brand?" Alexander interrupted.

He didn't yell. He didn't raise his voice. He stood up slowly, lifting Chloe effortlessly into his arms. When he turned to face Beatrice, his dark eyes were so cold they could have frozen the glass doors shut. The pure aura of power radiating from him made Beatrice’s knees buckle.

"You screamed at a terrified, lost child," Alexander said, his voice a deadly, low vibration. "You had security try to throw her out into the freezing rain like garbage. Is that the brand image of this establishment, Ms. Vance?"

"No! No, sir, please let me explain—"

"Shut up," Alexander snapped, cutting her off like a blade.

He turned his gaze slightly to the side, where Clara Evans—the young employee who had been fired just moments ago—was still kneeling on the floor. She was holding the coat she had used to shield Chloe, her eyes wide and wet with unshed tears.

Chloe peeked over her father’s shoulder and pointed a small finger at Clara. "Papa, the nice lady helped me. She gave me her coat. She told me the lights wouldn't hurt me."

Alexander’s expression softened instantly as he looked at Clara. He saw the name tag pinned to her cheap, worn uniform. He saw the dignity in her posture despite the humiliation she had just endured.

"Stand up, Ms. Evans," Alexander said gently.

Clara stood up on trembling legs, clutching her hands in front of her. "I... I was just trying to help her, sir. She was so scared."

"And you lost your job because of it," Alexander noted. He turned back to Beatrice, his face hardening back into stone. "Ms. Vance, you told her to clean out her locker, correct?"

"Mr. Thorne, I was just following protocol—"

"Effective immediately, you are stripped of your position," Alexander announced coldly. "You will not receive a severance package. You will not receive a reference. Furthermore, I will ensure that every luxury retail group from here to New York knows exactly how you treat children. You are blacklisted from this industry permanently."

Beatrice let out a strangled gasp, her hands flying to her mouth as her entire career crumbled into dust in a matter of seconds.

"As for you, Clara," Alexander said, using her first name with a respect that made her heart skip a beat. "How would you like to manage this entire flagship location? With a tripled salary, full benefits, and the absolute authority to rewrite the protocol on human decency?
