Chapter 5 - The Trap is Set

The plan was highly risky, but it was the only way to ensure the Morrisons couldn't squirm out of the charges.
Two days later, Daniel leaked a rumor through a contact in the hospital’s IT department. The rumor was simple: the digital audio file of the recording was stored on a secure, encrypted backup drive in the hospital’s primary administrative server room, and Daniel was planning to hand it over to the District Attorney’s office the following morning.
To make the bait even more appealing, Daniel arranged for Sarah to be temporarily moved to a highly secure private room on the VIP wing, leaving her original room empty but monitored by hidden cameras.
It was 1:00 AM. The hospital hallways were quiet, illuminated only by the dim, green night-lights.
In the security monitoring room, Daniel sat beside Agent Reyes and Marcus, watching a bank of screens. Screen four showed the empty hallway of the administrative wing. Screen seven showed the door to Sarah's old room.
For two hours, nothing happened. Daniel’s heart hammered against his ribs, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios. What if they didn't bite? What if they realized it was a trap?
Then, at 3:12 AM, the elevator door on the administrative floor slid open.
A man dressed in a generic hospital maintenance uniform stepped out. He wore a low baseball cap and a surgical mask, carrying a heavy tool bag. He walked with a slight, arrogant swagger that Daniel recognized instantly.
"It's Jason," Daniel whispered, his fists clenching.
Jason walked directly to the server room door. He pulled out a specialized electronic keycard copier, pressed it against the lock, and within five seconds, the indicator light turned green. He slipped inside.
"We’ve got him," Agent Reyes said, leaning toward her radio. "All teams, stand by. Let him access the terminal. We need him to initiate the download so we have him on wiretapping and corporate espionage charges."
On the monitor inside the server room, Jason opened his tool bag, pulling out a military-grade decryption device. He plugged it into the main server rack, his fingers flying across his laptop keyboard. His face, illuminated by the blue light of the monitor, was twisted in a look of triumphant greed.
“Almost got you, you little bitch,” Jason muttered to himself, unaware that the room’s microphone was picking up every word. “You thought you could ruin us? You’re going to die in this hospital, and I’m going to take every cent.”
Daniel’s blood ran cold. The sheer malice in his brother-in-law’s voice was sickening.
"Move in," Agent Reyes ordered.
The door to the server room was kicked open. Four heavily armed federal agents flooded the room, their weapons drawn, red laser sights painting Jason's chest.
"Federal agents! Hands on your head! Do not move!"
Jason froze, his laptop screen reflecting the sudden panic in his eyes. He slowly raised his hands, his face turning a pale, ghostly white as the agents slammed him against the server rack and clicked the handcuffs around his wrists.
At the same time, another team of agents stormed the Morrison estate on the Upper East Side.

Arthur Morrison was arrested in his study, surrounded by half-shredded financial documents. As the agents led him out of his mansion in handcuffs, a crowd of neighbors and reporters—alerted by an anonymous tip from Marcus—stood on the sidewalk, their cameras flashing in the dark night.
The mighty Morrison family had fallen. The carefully protected image of wealth and prestige had collapsed under the weight of their own greed, preserved on a tiny digital recording they could never erase.
