Chapter 1 - The Illusion of Innocence

"She attacked me, Marcus! Look at what she did to my dress!" Isabella cried, her voice a masterclass in theatrical manipulation. She squeezed out a torrent of tears, trembling as she reached her hands out toward Marcus Thorne. "She's unstable! The stress of the pregnancy has made her completely lose her mind!"
Marcus stood frozen in the doorway, his tall frame casting a long, dark shadow across the luxury suite. His face was unreadable, his eyes fixed on his wife, Khloe, who lay curled in a fetal position on the cold marble floor, clutching her seven-month pregnant stomach in absolute agony.
Elaine Parker, the event coordinator standing behind Marcus, gasped and covered her mouth. "Oh my god... someone call an ambulance! The baby!"
Isabella quickly stepped toward Marcus, trying to block his view of Khloe. "Marcus, darling, listen to me. She threw a champagne glass at me first! I was only defending myself. You know how emotional she gets—"
"Shut up," Marcus whispered. The words were quiet, but they carried the weight of an oncoming avalanche.
Isabella blinked, her fake tears pausing. "What?"
Marcus didn't answer her. He walked right past her, ignoring her outstretched hands as if she were nothing but air. He dropped to his knees beside Khloe, his expensive tuxedo pants soaking in the spilled champagne. His hands trembled as he gently touched Khloe's pale, sweat-slicked face.
"Khloe... Khloe, look at me," Marcus choked out, his usual cold, billionaire facade completely shattering. "I'm here. I've got you."
"Marcus... the baby... it hurts so bad," Khloe whimpered, her voice barely audible. Blood was beginning to stain the hem of her white maternity dress.
Before Isabella could spin another lie, heavy, rapid footsteps thundered down the hallway. A man in a white lab coat rushed into the room, flanked by four armed hospital security guards. It was Dr. Arthur Vance, the chief of surgery—and Khloe’s maternal uncle.
Arthur took one look at his niece on the floor and his eyes turned to pure ice. He didn't waste a second. "Get her onto a gurney immediately! Prepare Operating Room 3!" He turned his blazing glare toward Isabella, who was trying to slip out of the room. "Hold on right there, Ms. Rossi. You aren't going anywhere."

"You can't detain me!" Isabella snapped, her aristocratic confidence flaring up. "Do you know who my family is? My father owns half the real estate in Chicago!"
"I don't care if your father owns the moon," Arthur snarled, pulling a tablet from his coat pocket. "I just reviewed the hallway and suite security feeds from the main security hub. I saw everything, Isabella. Every single thing."
