Two weeks later, the federal hammer dropped.
The Department of Justice held a live press conference. The US Attorney announced a forty-count federal indictment against Richard Bennett, Preston Bennett, and the senior leadership of Bennett & Associates. The charges included conspiracy to commit wire fraud, grand larceny, embezzlement from client trust accounts, and obstruction of justice.
Because Preston had flipped to save himself, he provided the feds with the encryption keys to Richard's private servers.
The arrest of Richard Bennett was broadcast on every major network. He was led out of his Gold Coast mansion in handcuffs, wearing a gray tracksuit, his head bowed to avoid the cameras. The proud, untouchable senior partner was reduced to a federal inmate number.
Carolyn wasn't indicted on the financial fraud, but her life was effectively over. The state assets were frozen. The bank accounts were seized. The luxury cars were towed away by federal marshals.
