Chapter 4: The Truth Unveiled

The press conference room was packed with journalists, cameras flashing like a thunderstorm. Julian stood at the podium, looking appropriately haggard and distressed, playing the role of the heartbroken, worried husband perfectly.

"My wife, Clara, has been going through a severe mental health crisis," Julian lied smoothly to the cameras, dabbing his eyes with a handkerchief. "Arthur Vance took advantage of her vulnerable state at our charity gala. I am begging Arthur to release her, and begging Clara to come home so she can get the medical help she desperately needs."

Suddenly, the heavy doors at the back of the auditorium swung open.

The room went dead silent as I walked in. I wasn't wearing the modest, invisible navy gown from the gala. I wore a striking, crimson silk suit. My hair was styled elegantly, my head held high, radiating absolute confidence. Arthur walked a few steps behind me, a proud smile on his face, letting me take the center stage.

Julian froze, his mouth falling open as I marched straight up to the stage. Security tried to block me, but Arthur’s personal team swiftly stepped in, pushing them aside.

I took a second microphone from the stand and turned to face the sea of cameras.

"I am not unstable, and I have not been kidnapped," I announced, my voice echoing clearly through the speakers. "My name is Clara Vance—soon to be just Clara Evans—and I am here to set the record straight."

Julian tried to grab my arm, whispering fiercely, "Clara, shut up! You're ruining everything! Think of the company!"

I pulled away from him with utter disgust. "Twenty-two years ago, I married this man. For twenty-two years, I was his ghostwriter, his ghost-architect, and his emotional punching bag. Two weeks ago, he put me up for a ten-dollar auction to humiliate me in front of the world."

The journalists began shouting questions, but I raised my hand, silencing them.

"I have filed for divorce," I continued, pulling a legal document from my briefcase. "And today, I am filing a federal lawsuit against Julian and his corporation for intellectual property theft. The waterfront development project he just sold to international investors? The designs belong exclusively to me. As of this moment, I am revoking his rights to use them. The project is halted."

Julian’s face turned from pale to completely purple. "You can't do this! You have nothing! You signed a prenup!"

"The prenup covers your assets, Julian," I said, looking him dead in the eye with a cold smile. "It doesn't cover mine. You called me worthless. Let’s see how much your company is worth without my mind."
