Chapter 2 - The Bloodline and the RingThe wedding was completely halted. The guests were asked to leave, leaving only the immediate family, the priest, and a rapidly summoned team of trusted forensic specialists inside the church's private vestry. The atmosphere was thick with tension, a surreal mixture of a ruined wedding day and a potential decades-old miracle.

Clara sat in a velvet armchair, a silk shawl wrapped around her shoulders to cover both her exposed skin and her shivering frame. Julian sat on the armrest, holding her hand tightly, his mind reeling from the impossible paradox: the love of his life might actually be the long-lost sister his family had mourned for over two decades.
"If this is true," Julian said, his voice strained as he looked at Victoria, who was sitting across the room, looking entirely broken, "then Clara and I... we can't... we're..." He couldn't even bring himself to say the word siblings. The thought made him sick with grief.
Victoria looked up, her eyes red. "No. Julian, listen to me. You were adopted when you were four years old, after we lost her. Your father and I... we couldn't bear the empty house. We adopted you to save ourselves from the grief. You and Clara share absolutely no blood. You are not related."
A massive wave of relief washed over Julian, but Clara’s mind was anchored on a different reality. She looked at Victoria, her voice shaking. "You hated me. You told everyone I was a gold-digger from the foster system. You told Julian I would ruin the Ashford name. If I am your daughter, why did you treat me like garbage?"

Victoria flinched as if struck. She covered her face with her hands. "Because I am a fool, Clara. I was so consumed by protecting the family fortune, so blinded by my own bitterness and fear of outsiders, that I couldn't see what was right in front of me. I saw a girl with no family background, and I let my prejudice blind me. I will spend the rest of my life begging for your forgiveness. But right now, please... we need to know for sure. I've called a private lab. They can run a rapid DNA test within four hours."
Clara looked at Julian, then down at the silver bracelet resting on the table between them. Her whole life, she had felt like a puzzle with a missing center piece. "Do it," Clara said softly. "Run the test."
