Chapter 9 - The Fall of the Old World

That night became known in the city's history as the Night of Crimson Rain.

In a single, terrifyingly synchronized six-hour operation, Victor Romano completely dismantled the Falcone crime family. Every dock, every warehouse, every corrupt politician, and every enforcer allied with Don Carmine was neutralized or forced into absolute surrender.

By 5:00 a.m., the old mafia structure of the city was gone.

In its place stood a single, absolute power: Victor Romano.

The storm cleared as dawn broke over the city.

Inside the West Wing study of the Romano estate, the fireplace glowed with warm embers.

Victor sat behind his oak desk, signing final executive orders that transferred all seized Falcone shipping lines into legal, public commercial entities, effectively cleansing his empire of illicit syndicate operations once and for all.

The heavy mahogany doors opened softly.

Tessa walked in, wearing a warm cashmere sweater and jeans, holding two cups of fresh coffee.

Victor set his pen down immediately. His harsh face instantly softened into a gentle, loving expression.

She set a cup on his desk and sat casually on the edge of the mahogany table beside him.

"It's over?" she asked softly.

"It's over," Victor replied, reaching out to wrap his large hand around her waist, pulling her closer. "Carmine and his lieutenants are in federal custody. The syndicate is dissolved. The business is fully legitimate now, Tessa. No more hidden wars. No more shadows."

Tessa looked around the study—the same room where she had once gathered broken crystal fragments off the Persian rug, terrified for her life.

"It feels different in here now," she murmured.

"It's not a museum for a dead king anymore," Victor said, his voice rich with emotion. "It's a home."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box. He set it on her lap and opened it.

Inside sat an exquisite platinum ring, featuring a flawless, pear-cut yellow diamond that shone like a brilliant drop of golden sunlight.

Tessa gasped, her breath catching in her throat.

Victor stood up, taking her hands into his. The man who had conquered the city, who had made crime lords bow in terror, looked at her with humble, trembling eyes.

"Tessa Moore," Victor whispered, his voice thick with deep emotion. "You walked into this dark house when I was dying, and you gave me a reason to live. You showed me strength, mercy, and love. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

May you like

Tessa looked at the ring, then up into the beautiful amber eyes of the man who had protected her, cherished her, and changed her world.

"Yes," she whispered, tears of pure joy overflowing her eyes. "Yes, Victor. Absolutely yes."
