Chapter 9 - The New Legacy

Two years later.

The Southwest had changed. Under Nathan’s leadership, the old criminal syndicates were completely transformed into legitimate, highly profitable international shipping, security, and real estate enterprises. The name Brooks was no longer associated with fear or underground rumors, but with power, philanthropy, and immense economic development.

In downtown Phoenix, the new Emily Brooks Children’s Hospital was officially opened—a state-of-the-art medical center funded entirely by the Brooks Foundation, providing free pediatric care to families in need across the state.

On a warm afternoon in October, the sun set over the Sedona estate, painting the red cliffs in brilliant gold.

I sat on a comfortable rattan sofa on the sun terrace, holding a warm cup of chamomille tea.

Down on the manicured lawn, nine-year-old Noah was practicing his pitching form with a baseball, while six-year-old Lily was riding a small white pony guided by Dominic, who had soft-hearted completely when it came to my daughter.

Footsteps sounded behind me.

Nathan stepped onto the terrace, wearing a comfortable linen shirt and slacks. He walked over, sitting beside me, wrapping his broad arm around my waist, pulling me close to his side.

He set his hand gently on my stomach.

Beneath my silk top rested a distinct, rounded swell—our third child, a baby girl due in two months.

"How is she moving today?" Nathan asked softly, pressing a kiss to my temple, his hand feeling the gentle, fluttery kicks beneath his palm.

"She’s active," I laughed softly, resting my hand over his. "She takes after her father. She doesn't like sitting still."

Nathan smiled—a deep, handsome smile that still made my heart skip a beat every single time I saw it.

He looked out over the lawn at Noah and Lily, his eyes filled with a quiet, profound contentment.

"Noah got an A on his science project today," Nathan said proudly. "He wants to be an aerospace engineer."

"He gets his brilliant mind from you," I said, looking up at him.

"No," Nathan turned his head, kissing my lips gently. "He gets his resilience from you."

We sat together in peaceful silence as the sun dipped lower, casting long, golden shadows across the paradise we had built together.
