Chapter 10 - The Brightest Future

The sun was setting over the Hudson River, painting the evening sky in brilliant shades of gold, purple, and crimson.

The grand reception was in full swing inside the ballroom, but Damiano, Emma, and I walked out onto the private glass balcony overlooking the manicured gardens below.

Damiano sat on the comfortable lounge sofa, pulling me onto his lap while holding seven-year-old Emma against his side. The cool evening breeze carried the scent of white roses and the distant sound of gentle piano music from the hall.

"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Moretti?" Damiano whispered, pressing a soft kiss to my temple, his heavy arm wrapped securely around my waist.

"I was just thinking about how much my life changed because of a tiny blinking red light under a desk," I smiled, leaning my head against his broad chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart.

Damiano chuckled softly, looking down at Emma, who was fast asleep against his arm, still clutching her rag doll.

"She’s going to rule this city one day, you know," Damiano said with a proud, warm smile. "She has her mother's heart and my stubbornness."

"She's a Moretti," I replied softly, kissing his jawline. "She can do anything."

Damiano looked out at the peaceful city skyline glowing in the dusk, then pulled me closer, resting his chin on my head.

The dark days of fear, poverty, and danger were gone forever. In their place stood an unbreakable family, built on a foundation of fierce loyalty, courage, and a deep, everlasting love that had conquered the darkest shadows of New York.
