Chapter 8 - The Golden Vows

The day of the wedding arrived under a flawless, clear blue sky.

The rear lawn of Morrison Manor had been transformed into an enchanting botanical paradise. White roses, lavender, and eucalyptus draped over a stunning wooden archway set at the edge of the crystal-clear lake. A small gathering of fifty close friends, family members, and trusted staff sat in wooden chairs along the aisle.

Marcus Kane, fully recovered and looking sharp in a tux, stood as my best man. Beside him stood Jordan and Justin, dressed in miniature matching black tuxedos with cute silk bowties, holding the velvet ring pillow together.

I stood beneath the archway, my heart pounding against my ribs like a teenager’s. I had run multi-billion-dollar corporate mergers and faced down armed mercenaries without blinking, yet standing here waiting for Annie made my hands shake with nervous, joyful anticipation.

The string quartet began to play a soft, romantic rendition of Canon in D.

The heavy glass terrace doors opened, and Annie stepped out onto the lawn.

My breath lodged in my throat. She was breathtaking.

She wore an elegant, off-the-shoulder gown of ivory lace that hugged her curves gracefully, subtly accentuating the small, precious bump of her early pregnancy. Her long dark hair was styled in soft, cascading waves entwined with tiny white flowers. She carried a simple bouquet of white roses and lavender—the very scent that had comforted my sons on her first day in our home.

As she walked down the aisle toward me, her eyes locked onto mine, radiating a warmth so intense it burned away every remaining shadow of our past.

When she reached the archway, I took her small, hand in mine, kissing her knuckles gently before turning to face the officiant.

The ceremony was quiet, intimate, and filled with deep emotion. But the moment that brought tears to every guest’s eyes was when we exchanged our self-written vows.

I looked into Annie’s eyes, holding both of her hands.

"Annie," I began, my voice thick with emotion. "Six months ago, I was a ghost walking through a dark, quiet house. I was surviving, but I wasn't living. I thought my heart was permanently broken. And then you walked through my door. You didn't just clean my house; you healed my sons. You taught me that love isn't something that ends when we lose someone—it is something that grows, transforms, and saves us when we need it most. I promise to cherish you, protect you, and love you with every beat of my heart for the rest of my life."

Annie let out a soft breath, a single tear tracing down her cheek as she spoke her vows.

"Drake," she said softly, her voice echoing gently across the lake. "When I came to this house, I was running from a world that had broken my faith in people. I thought I was condemned to live in the shadows forever. But you and your beautiful boys showed me that I was worthy of love, worthy of a family, and worthy of a future. You gave me back my life, Drake. I promise to be your partner, your safe harbor, and your eternal love through every storm and every sunshine we encounter. I love you."

"By the power vested in me," the officiant announced with a warm smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Drake, you may kiss your bride."

I didn't wait a single second. I pulled Annie into my arms, dipping her back slightly as I pressed my lips to hers in a deep, passionate, definitive kiss that sealed our lives together forever.

The guests erupted into joyful cheers and applause. Jordan and Justin cheered loudly, jumping up and down, waving their hands in the air.

I lifted Annie back up, laughing as she threw her arms around my neck.

I picked up Jordan in my left arm and Justin in my right, while Annie leaned against my side, her hand resting over her stomach. Together, the four—and a half—of us turned to face our friends, ready to step into the brilliant, golden future waiting for us.
