Chapter 10 - Still Choosing Myself

Two years later.

The sun was setting over the Pacific coast, painting the California sky in vivid shades of pink, gold, and deep violet.

I stood on the balcony of our new oceanfront home in Malibu, holding a glass of crisp white wine, watching the waves crash against the shore below.

Behind me, the glass sliding doors opened. Julian walked out, wearing a comfortable sweater, holding two wrapped gift boxes in his hands.

"Happy tenth anniversary of the day you chose yourself," Julian murmured, sliding his arms around my waist from behind and resting his chin gently on my shoulder.

I smiled, leaning back against his warm chest. "Is that what we're calling it?"

"That's the day your real life started," Julian said softly, kissing my cheek. "And the day that eventually brought you to me."

He handed me the smaller velvet box.

I opened it. Inside sat an exquisite, custom-designed stainless-steel watch.

I lifted it out of the box and turned it over to look at the casing. Engraved in crisp, beautiful silver script on the back were six words:

Now and forever, choosing only you.

A soft, genuine tear escaped my eye—not of sadness, but of overwhelming gratitude.

I turned around in Julian’s arms, throwing my arms around his neck, kissing him deeply under the golden sunset of the West Coast.

Ten years ago, I thought my life was over on a plane flight from Seattle to Los Angeles. I thought eight years of my life had been thrown away into a void of deceit, lies, and disrespect.

But looking back now, as the West Coast Director of an international firm, married to a man who cherished me completely, standing on the balcony of my dream home, I realized the truth.

That folded cocktail napkin handed to my ex-husband wasn't the end of my story.

It was the invitation to my freedom.

And for the first time in my life, I was finally, truly home.
