Chapter 9 - The Trial of the Century

Six months later.

The Federal Courthouse in Manhattan was surrounded by hundreds of reporters, news vans, and security personnel.

The final trial of the Moretti crime syndicate—the organization responsible for the car bombing that took Sophia’s life—had reached its conclusion. With the overwhelming evidence provided by my intelligence network, the entire senior leadership was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

I stood on the marble steps outside the courthouse, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, holding a news conference alongside my legal team.

"Mr. Rossi! Mr. Rossi!" a reporter yelled, shoving a microphone forward. "Is it true that you have officially restructured the Rossi Enterprise into a charitable foundation for maternal and infant health?"

"Yes," I announced clearly into the microphones. "Fifty percent of my corporate profits will permanently fund the Sophia & Lily Foundation, providing free emergency medical care, shelter, and legal support for abused mothers and premature infants across the country."

Another reporter pushed through the crowd. "And what about the rumors regarding your personal life, sir? Who is the young woman seen living at your Long Island estate?"

I paused, looking past the sea of cameras toward the tinted windows of my armored SUV parked at the curb.

Inside the vehicle, Hannah was sitting, wearing a simple, breathtaking emerald dress, holding a healthy, chubby eight-month-old Leo who was happily playing with a toy boat.

I smiled—a real, radiant smile that the media had not seen on my face in years.

"She is not a rumor," I said proudly into the microphones. "She is the woman who saved my family. She is the mother of my home. And next month, she will be my wife."

The reporters gasped, flashbulbs exploding like a thousand miniature stars across the courthouse steps.
