Chapter 9 - The Grand Announcement

One month later, Lake Geneva was bathed in brilliant, golden summer sunlight.
The dark clouds of conspiracy, violence, and fear had completely vanished, leaving behind blue skies and gentle warm breezes.
The Whitmore estate was filled with music, laughter, and light. White marquees and floral arrangements covered the vast green lawns leading down to the water. Hundreds of guests—close friends, foundation workers, staff members, and high-profile figures who genuinely supported Marcus—gathered for the grand summer gala.
There were no corporate vultures. No greedy board members. No cold socialites.
At the center of the lawn stood a large wooden stage covered in white roses.
Marcus stood on the stage wearing a tailored dark gray suit. He looked relaxed, healthy, and genuinely happy. Beside him stood Lily, wearing a bright yellow dress with matching ribbons in her hair, proudly holding a basket of flower petals.
The crowd quieted as the soft strains of a violin began to play.
Down the white carpeted aisle walked Rosa.
She wore a breathtaking, off-shoulder ivory gown that flowed around her like silk water. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves adorned with small white orchids. She carried no weapons, no wrench, no fear—only breathtaking elegance and radiant happiness.
When she reached the stage, Marcus took both of her hands in his. The look of devotion in his eyes brought tears to the eyes of several guests in the front row.
"Friends, family, and honored guests," Captain Vance, who was acting as the master of ceremonies, announced with a warm smile. "We are gathered here today not just to celebrate a partnership, but to celebrate the true meaning of family, resilience, and love."
Marcus took the microphone, looking down at Rosa, then down at Lily.
"A year ago, I believed that my value as a human being was measured by the numbers on a balance sheet," Marcus spoke into the microphone, his voice deep and full of emotion. "I lived in a massive, empty house surrounded by iron gates, isolated from the world. I thought I was safe."
He smiled, reaching down to touch Lily’s nose gently. "Then, on a cold Saturday night, a brave three-year-old girl in pink star pajamas walked into my study and taught me what real strength looks like."
The crowd chuckled warmly, wiping away tears.
"And her mother," Marcus continued, looking directly into Rosa’s eyes, "showed me what real loyalty, love, and grace mean. Rosa didn't love me for my money—she saved my life when I had nothing to offer her but danger. She healed this house. She healed my heart."
Marcus slipped a stunning, ethically sourced emerald-cut diamond ring onto Rosa’s finger.
"Rosa Delgado," Marcus said softly, his voice cracking with emotion. "Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
Rosa wiped a tear from her cheek, a brilliant, radiant smile lighting up her face.
"Yes, Marcus," she answered clearly. "A thousand times, yes!"

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and celebration as Marcus pulled Rosa into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her passionately under the warm summer sun.
Lily jumped up and down on the stage, throwing her flower petals into the air and cheering at the top of her lungs: "WE DID IT! WE WON!"
