Chapter 5 - The Fall of Vance Capital

In the days following the disastrous wedding at the St. Aurelia, the financial world witnessed one of the swiftest destructions of wealth in modern history.
The Ardell Real Estate Empire dissolved almost overnight. With Victoria in federal custody without bail and their corporate assets seized by the Department of Justice, the company defaulted on over two billion dollars in commercial bonds. Construction sites across the city ground to a halt, and creditors descended like vultures upon the remaining assets.
Savannah Ardell, once the most envied heiress in the city, found herself evicted from her penthouses. Her credit cards were declined, her luxury vehicles were repossessed, and her high-society friends completely erased her from their contact lists.
Meanwhile, Vance Capital was completely dismantled.
Inside the federal courtroom downtown, Graham sat in a orange jumpsuit, his hands cuffed to his waist belt. The arrogant smirk that had once defined his face was completely gone, replaced by hollow eyes and dark circles.
Eleanor sat on the plaintiff's side of the courtroom, supported by Katherine Vance and Marcus. Though she was still in her wheelchair, she wore a tailored black blazer, her hair tied back in a sharp, professional bun.
"Your Honor," the federal prosecutor announced, presenting a thick binder of evidence to the judge. "We have established that Mr. Vance systematically transferred funds from Eleanor Whitaker’s private trust into offshore accounts during her hospitalization. Furthermore, we have bank records proving he paid off two medical technicians to falsify her blood tests, hiding the presence of the synthetic neurotoxin administered by Victoria Ardell."
Graham’s public defender leaned over to whisper to him, but Graham just stared blankly at the floor.
"Mr. Vance," Judge Miller said, her voice stern and unyielding. "Do you have anything to say before I issue the pre-trial detention order?"
Graham slowly raised his head, looking at Eleanor across the room. "I gave you everything..." he muttered delusionally. "You were just a sick woman... I took care of you..."
"Silence," the judge warned sharply. "In light of the severity of these charges—including attempted murder, grand larceny, and corporate fraud—bail is denied. The defendant will remain in federal custody until trial."
CRACK.
The gavel fell.
Two marshals grabbed Graham by the shoulders and led him out through the side door. As he walked past Eleanor’s table, he tried to lean toward her. "Eleanor! Help me! You can tell them to drop the charges!"
Eleanor did not turn her head. She simply looked forward, her expression serene and undisturbed.

Marcus leaned down beside Eleanor’s wheelchair. "Boss, the court has just granted the emergency motion. One hundred percent of Vance Capital's remaining assets, patents, and property rights have been returned to your sole ownership."
Eleanor offered a faint, elegant smile. "Good. Rename the firm Vanguard Global... and liquidate every single share Graham owned."
