Chapter 10 - A New Dawn at the Everhart Estate

Six months later.

The iron gates of the Everhart estate stood wide open, welcoming the bright, warm autumn sunlight that poured over the twelve acres of impeccably manicured lawns.

Inside the grand dining room, the long mahogany table was no longer pushed aside; it was covered in a massive, sprawling Sunday brunch spread prepared by Carmen and the estate chefs—pancakes, fresh fruit, warm Mexican pastries, and endless pots of coffee.

Julian Everhart sat at the head of the table, laughing out loud as four-year-old Ana—who had officially adopted him as her favorite partner in crime—smeared strawberry jam across his cheek with a sticky finger.

Milo and Elle, now running around with boundless toddler energy, chased each other around the dining room table, squealing with laughter while two golden retrievers—yes, Julian had finally bought the dogs—bounded after them.

Julian looked across the table.

Carmen stood by the French doors leading to the rose garden, wearing a simple yellow sundress, holding a fresh cup of coffee in her hand as the morning breeze caught her dark hair.

Julian stood up, excused himself from Ana’s breakfast ambush, and walked over to Carmen. He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder as they both looked out over the blooming red roses.

"You know," Julian murmured softly against her ear, "the board of directors is still trying to figure out why I skipped the global tech summit in Tokyo last week."

Carmen smiled, leaning back into his embrace, her hand covering his where it rested on her stomach. "And what did you tell them?"

"I told them the most important acquisition of my life was happening right here in Greenwich," Julian replied, turning her gently in his arms and pressing a deep, tender kiss to her lips.

Inside the mansion, the heavy silence of grief was gone forever, replaced by the chaotic, beautiful, living sound of a real family.
