Chapter 7 - The Midnight Revelation

By midnight, the storm had reached Breakers Mansion.
The digital media outlets had already picked up the story, splashing Abigail’s name and photograph across every financial blog and gossip column in the country.
Inside the grand library, the fire was burning low.
Abigail sat in the wingback chair by the hearth, a mug of cold tea untouched on the side table. Her face was pale, her eyes fixed on the flickering flames. She had seen the articles. She knew what people were saying—that she was a fraud, a gold-digger, a criminal hiding behind a billionaire's wealth.
The heavy oak door opened softly.
Pedro walked in. He had discarded his suit jacket and tie, his white shirt unbuttoned at the collar. He looked tired, but his eyes burned with an intense, steady light.
He walked over, knelt down in front of her chair just as he had knelt in the garden with his sons, and took her cold hands in his warm palms.
“I saw the articles,” Abigail whispered, her voice cracking. “Pedro, you have to let me go. I won't let my past destroy your company, or your family. I’ll pack my bags and leave before sunrise.”
Pedro didn't let go of her hands. He squeezed them tighter, anchoring her to the spot.
“Look at me, Abigail,” he commanded softly.
She raised her eyes, meeting his dark obsidian gaze.
“I spent my entire life building an empire because I thought control was the only way to survive,” Pedro said, his voice rich with an emotional weight he had never shared with another human being. “I thought if I had enough money, enough power, enough walls, nothing could ever hurt me or the people I love. But I was wrong.”
He leaned closer, his forehead resting gently against hers.
“When Ethan walked into this kitchen... when I saw those vultures trying to tear you down with lies... I didn't care about my stock price. I didn't care about the board of directors,” Pedro whispered fiercely. “All I cared about was protecting you. You brought my sons back to life, Abigail. And God help me, you brought me back to life, too.”
A tear spilled over Abigail’s eyelashes, tracking down her cheek. “You’re risking everything for me, Pedro.”
May you like
“I’m not risking anything,” Pedro murmured, his lips brushing against hers in a slow, breathtakingly tender kiss that tasted of quiet surrender and fierce, unbreakable devotion. “I’m finally investing in something that matters.”
When they broke apart, breathless and smiling through their tears, the last shadow of Abigail’s past vanished into the firelight. They weren't just a billionaire CEO and his children's nanny anymore. They were two broken souls who had found their way home.
