Chapter 10 - The Circle Complete

The night air outside Central Park was crisp and quiet as the sleek black SUV pulled up to the curb near the General Sherman Monument.

The gala had ended, but Arthur, Lily, and Ethan had asked the driver to make one final stop before heading back to Westchester.

They stepped out of the car, wrapped in warm wool coats.

Lily walked slowly across the snow-dusted grass, stopping beside the old oak tree where she had crouched two years ago, shivering in her tattered rags, holding a boy's warm phone in her frostbitten palm.

Ethan walked up beside her, slipping his hand into hers. "It looks smaller now," Ethan whispered, looking up at the General Sherman statue.

"Everything looks smaller when you're not afraid anymore," Lily smiled gently.

Arthur walked up behind them, placing his large, warm hands on both of their shoulders, pulling his children close to his side.

The city lights of Manhattan gleamed around them, casting a warm, golden glow across the quiet park. The wind still blew through the bare branches, but it no longer carried the bite of fear or the pain of loneliness.

Lily looked up at Arthur, then looked at Ethan, feeling the deep, unbreakable anchor of family surrounding her heart.

"Ready to go home, Dad?" Lily asked softly.

Arthur smiled down at his daughter—his brave, beautiful, extraordinary girl who had saved his son and healed his soul.

"Yes, Lily," Arthur replied, kissing the top of her head as they turned to walk back toward the waiting car together. "Let's go home."
