Chapter 7 - The New Blueprint

Morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Castellano estate’s East Wing courtyard, warming the manicured hedges and the crystal-clear water of the courtyard fountain.
The heavy iron gates stood wide open. No armed guards patrolled the immediate perimeter anymore; instead, discreet biometric scanners hummed quietly in the stonework, blending into the landscaping with the seamless elegance of modern tech.
On the lawn, Lily was kneeling in the damp grass, tossing a bright red tennis ball across the lawn.
The Warden—massive, terrifying, and fiercely loyal—sprang forward like a bolt of black lightning, caught the ball in its powerful jaws, and trotted back proudly, dropping it right at her feet before sitting down with a soft, obedient thump.
From the second-floor balcony, Damon Castellano leaned against the limestone railing, holding a steaming cup of black coffee. He wore a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, looking less like a syndicate boss and more like a man who finally owned his own time.
Elena stepped out from the French doors behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind and resting her chin against his shoulder.
"You're up early," Elena murmured, watching the girl and the dog below.
"An architect never sleeps until the foundation is set," Damon replied, covering her hands with his own.
"And is it set?"
Damon looked down at the courtyard, watching Lily laugh as the massive Rottweiler nudged her hand for another throw. The heavy iron gates were open to the world, yet the estate had never felt more secure.
"It’s better than set," Damon said, a quiet, genuine smile touching his lips. "It’s alive."
Elena kissed his shoulder lightly. "Good. Because the board meeting starts in an hour, and your chief operating officer wants to discuss our expansion into European green energy."
"Let them wait," Damon said, turning around in her arms and pulling her close. "The architect is taking the morning off."

Down below, Lily looked up toward the balcony, waving enthusiastically with both hands. The Warden barked once—a sharp, joyful sound that echoed across the estate—and sat down right beside her, the most feared beast in the underworld transformed into the most faithful guardian in the world.
The war was over. The empire was secure. And for the first time in his life, Damon Castellano didn't need a leash to keep his world together.
