Chapter 1 - The Ash of an Empire

The silence that followed Isabella’s departure from the boardroom didn’t just linger—it suffocated.

Damian stood frozen, his hand still hovering over the fountain pen she had refused to touch. On the table, the cream-colored envelope containing her resignation seemed to glow under the harsh fluorescent lights.

"Damian," Evelyn’s voice sliced through the quiet, stripped of its usual aristocratic warmth. "Fix this. What does she mean, Montrose Global Holdings? Since when does Isabella have a holding company?"

Damian didn’t answer. His eyes were locked on his tablet, which had just lit up with a barrage of urgent, high-priority emails.

Notification: Unauthorized share transfer detected.

Notification: Emergency Board Meeting requisitioned by majority shareholder.

Notification: Trading halted pending material announcement.

"It’s a bluff," Vanessa stammered, her perfectly manicured hand trembling as she checked her own phone. "She’s a housewife, Damian! She’s spent the last four years organizing charity galas and picking out flower arrangements. She doesn't have the capital to buy 61% of this company!"

"She didn't buy it today, Vanessa," the elderly director, Mr. Vance, said, his voice hollow. He slumped back into his leather chair, staring at the power-of-attorney documents Isabella had left behind. "She’s been buying it for four years. Every time we had a liquidity crisis... every time Damian claimed he found an 'anonymous angel investor' to bail us out in Singapore, Zurich, and Orion... it wasn't an angel. It was her."

The room erupted into chaos. Directors began shouting, phones buzzed in unison, and the press outside the glass doors, sensing blood in the water, began snapping photos through the blinds.

Damian finally looked up, his face devoid of color. "She didn't just bail us out," he whispered, the realization hitting him like a physical blow. "The bailouts were structured as convertible debt. She gave us loans through Montrose Global. And today, the moment she triggered the authorization..."

"The debt converted into equity," Mr. Vance finished, closing his eyes. "Giving her absolute voting control. Damian... she doesn't just own a seat at the table. She owns the table. She owns us."
