Chapter 9 - The New Empire

Six months later.
The city of New York had never been more peaceful. With the destruction of the Mangano family, Vincent Torino had consolidated absolute control over the Five Families, establishing an era of unprecedented order, prosperity, and strict morality across the syndicate.
The old rules of blood and fear were replaced by a new law: Protection for the innocent, swift death for those who cross the line.
On a glorious, sun-drenched Saturday afternoon, the gates of the Torino estate were thrown open—not for a meeting of mobsters, but for a grand celebration.
The vast estate gardens were decorated with white silk canopies, thousands of fresh white roses, and long tables laden with incredible food prepared by the city’s finest chefs. Dozens of guests—allies, family friends, and local community leaders—filled the lawn with music and laughter.
In the center of the garden stood a magnificent white floral arch overlooking the rolling hills.
In his dressing room, Vincent stood before the mirror, adjusting a dark blue tuxedo. He looked younger, the harsh lines on his face smoothed away by peace, his dark eyes filled with a quiet, profound happiness he had never thought possible for a man like him.
Marco walked into the room, wearing a matching suit, carrying two glasses of expensive champagne. He handed one to Vincent.
“Can’t believe I’m saying this,” Marco grinned, shaking his head. “The most feared man in New York is finally settling down.”
Vincent took a sip of the champagne, looking at his old friend in the mirror. “You think I’m making a mistake, Marco?”
“A mistake?” Marco chuckled softly, his eyes warming with genuine affection. “Vincent, I’ve watched you carry the weight of this empire on your back for thirty years. You were living in a golden tomb. That woman and her little girl didn't ruin your empire—they saved your life.”
A knock sounded on the open door.
Isabella stood there, looking like a little princess in a floor-length white lace dress, a small basket of rose petals in her hands. She ran into the room, throwing her arms around Vincent’s waist.
“Vincent! It’s time!” she cheered happily. “Mommy looks so pretty!”
Vincent knelt down, smiling warmly as he adjusted the silk flower in her hair. “Are you ready for your big job, flower girl?”
“Yes!” Isabella beamed, proudly holding up her basket. “And remember your promise!”
“I always remember my promises,” Vincent smiled, patting her head.
Out in the garden, string instruments began to play a soft, beautiful melody.
The guests stood up as Vincent took his place under the floral arch beside Marco and the minister.
Then, the music swelled, and the crowd turned to look at the garden path.
Carmen walked down the aisle on the arm of Dr. Evans, who had proudly offered to give her away. She was breathtaking. Her wedding dress was a masterpiece of ivory silk and lace, hugging her slender, healthy frame, trailing softly over the green grass. Her dark hair was styled in elegant curls, her face glowing with a beauty so radiant it brought tears to the eyes of half the women in attendance.
As she reached the arch, she looked up at Vincent. Her eyes met his, and in that shared look lay three years of suffering, a midnight meeting in a dark pantry, and a love that had defied every law of their violent world.
Vincent stepped forward, taking her delicate hand in his large, warm grip.
The minister spoke words of love, protection, and eternal devotion, but to Vincent and Carmen, the true vows had already been written months ago in blood, sacrifice, and buttered bread.

“By the power vested in me,” the minister announced with a warm smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Vincent wrapped his arms around Carmen’s waist, pulling her close, and kissed her deeply under the showering petals of white roses. The crowd erupted into loud cheers, clapping and shouting their blessings as Isabella jumped up and down with delight, tossing rose petals into the air.
