Chapter 10 - A Table Full of Life

Ten years later.

The sun was setting over the Hudson River, casting a warm, golden light across the stone patio of the Torino estate.

The long wooden table on the patio was laden with platters of homemade pasta, fresh roasted meats, crusty bread, and bowls of fresh fruit.

Sitting at the head of the table was Vincent Torino. His hair was silver at the temples now, his face mature and dignified, wearing a comfortable linen shirt. Beside him sat Carmen, as radiant and beautiful as ever, resting her head gently on his shoulder as she poured wine for their guests.

Around the table was a scene of pure, vibrant life.

Isabella, now an eighteen-year-old young woman with her mother’s grace and Vincent’s sharp intelligence, was sitting near the center, laughing animatedly as she showed Marco—now a proud "uncle"—her acceptance letter to Yale Law School.

“She’s going to be a lawyer, Marco!” Isabella teased, nudging the old underboss. “So you better keep your business clean, or I’ll sue you myself!”

Marco laughed heartily, raising his glass in a toast. “To our future Attorney General!”

On the lawn nearby, two young boys—six-year-old Leo and four-year-old Anthony, Vincent and Carmen’s sons—were chasing a new generation of golden retrievers across the grass, their sweet, innocent laughter filling the warm evening air.

Vincent sat quietly, holding Carmen’s hand under the table, watching his children play.

He remembered the cold, dark night ten years ago when he had walked into his pantry holding a gun, expecting an intruder, only to find a starving child crouched behind a sack of flour.

He had broken the one rule that had built his empire—the rule against vulnerability, against love, against letting anyone inside his heart. He had risked his business, his reputation, and his very life to protect a maid and her daughter.

And in breaking that rule, he had gained the only empire that truly mattered.

Isabella walked over, carrying a plate with a freshly made, perfectly golden grilled cheese sandwich. She set it down in front of Vincent with a bright, beautiful smile.

“Compliments of the chef,” Isabella giggled. “I buttered the outside myself.”

Vincent looked at the sandwich, then looked up at his daughter, his wife, his sons, and his true family surrounding him under the sunset.

A soft, genuine smile lit up the face of the most powerful man in the city.

“It’s perfect,” Vincent said softly, taking his wife’s hand and holding it tight. “Everything is perfect.”
